Marketa Vondrousova and Ons Jabeur will clash in the 2023 Wimbledon finals. These two ladies have shown the most at the All England Club courts, and we can say without hesitation they fully deserved to be here. Vondrousova went against all odds to reach the title match, becoming the first unseeded player among the ladies to reach the Wimbledon finals. On the other side, Jabeur was already in this position last year when she lost the finals to Elena Rybakina.
Preview
Marketa Vondrousova (+170) is in the finals even though she wasn’t included among the top 32 favorites. This is the first time in history that something like this happened, which makes her success even more significant.
On her way toward the finals, the player from the Czech Republic was better than Peyton Stearns, Veronika Kudermetova, Dona Vekic, Marie Bouzkova, Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina in the finals. All her rivals apart from Stearns were seeded players.
She was better than Svitolina in straight sets, 6-3 each, confidently keeping the distance between her and the Ukrainian player. She had 55% of the points won on Svitolina’s serve and the same percentage with converted break points. It is very important that the matchup lasted for 75 minutes.
Ons Jabeur (-210) is here for the second time. The Moroccan player lost two Grand Slam finals last season, one here in London and the other in New York, where Iga Swiatek took the title. The third time’s a charm, some would say and Jabeur would most definitely agree.
Jabeur’s rivals at Wimbledon were pretty tough too. Magdalena Frech and Zhouxuan Bai were easily defeated in the first two rounds, but after that, she experienced a nasty stretch that saw her facing Bianca Andreescu, Petra Kvitovs (who is a two-time champion here), and Aryna Sabalenka one of the best players in the world.
Against Andreescu and Sabalenka, Jabeur was losing the opening set, yet she would come back to win. She won over 90% of games on her own service, and 54% of breakpoint chances.
Head to Head games
There were six meetings in total between Vondrousova and Jabeur and the result is even right now, 3-3. Though, the previous two events ended with the Czech player winning. She was better than Jabeur at the Australian Open before beating her at Indian Wells.
One of their events took place at the grass surface in the first round of the 2021 Eastbourne International, where Jabeur triumphed in straight sets.
Predictions
The battle between these two girls should be an entertaining one. Still, our pick here would be Jabeur to win because of her affinity for grass surface. Also, she showed more than Vondrousova, and it seems that Jabeur had to endure clashes with much better players than her rival. Also, Jabeur’s stats (especially the one about keeping her serve) suggest she has an edge against the Czech player. The odds are solid enough, with her victory priced at -210. As stated before, third times
Pick: Ons Jabeur wins -210
