The Wimbledon semifinal battle between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev promises to be a very good one. The stakes are high, we have two players who are in very good shape and who are among the best in the world. All this should be enough for a spectacle at the All England Club. Alcaraz is the no.1 in the world, and the new force in tennis, presumably the future of the same. Medvedev, on the other side, is the guy who was predicted a much better career, but he still has enough time to become one of the bigger names in tennis history.
The second semifinals is between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic and here is the preview for that one as well.
Preview
Carlos Alcaraz (-250) defeated Holger Rune in the quarterfinals in straight sets, converting only two break points, thus taking down the young Danish player. The final result of this battle was 7-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Previously, Alcaraz was better than Chardy, Muller, and Jarry, as well as Berrettini in the Round of 16, against whom he lost one set. That was the case against Jarry as well.
Alcaraz’s points won percentage on the opponent’s second serve is 40%, and in some matches, he was close to 50%, meaning that he is very aggressive and immediately attacks. He allowed Berrettini to have only nine aces, despite the Italian having 71% of the successful first serve.
Daniil Medvedev (+205) had to dig deep to defeat Chris Eubanks in the quarterfinals. The Russian fell back 1-2 at one moment, having the entire crowd against himself. Now, old Medvedev would get into a dispute with the fans, but this one, was more stable, and he didn’t mind all the off-court matters.
Instead, we saw him pumping up the first serve and eventually racking up aces with only five double faults, with almost 70% of the first serve being on target. He grinded his way out of the trouble, overcoming plenty of negative factors, which is why he flies high on morale right now.
Medvedev had a solid way through the semis, eliminating Fery in the first round, Mannarino in the second, Martin Fuscovics in the third and Lehecka in the fourth round. He would only drop a set vs. Fuscovics. We have to say that he has a 40% conversion of break points.
Head to Head
The current record between these guys is 1-1. Two years ago, Medvedev blasted Alcaraz here in Wimbledon in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. After that, their next meeting was this year at the Indian Wells, where Alcaraz trashed the Russian rival, 6-3, 6-2. The Spaniard’s improvement was obvious.
Prediction
The line for the over/under number of games is at 38.5 for the moment, and in our opinion, this event will go over. Why? Both players play outstanding tennis and are very high on confidence. Alcaraz is the favorite here, but we wouldn’t bet on his victory due to Medvedev’s excellent serve. Both guys protect their service well, and we doubt seeing too many breakpoint chances. That’s why we have to go with over.
Pick: Over 38.5 games -110
