According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Los Angeles Lakers and Carmelo Anthony decided to “pause” their negotiations about the 10-time All-Star forward joining the purple and gold.
The original intention was for Anthony to wait for the start of the March and to sign a deal which would keep him with the Lakers until the end of the season.
It was important that the deal goes through after March 1st because that is the deadline for all the waived player after which they could join other teams and be registered for the playoffs.

Since the Lakers have slim chances of reaching the postseason, the deal is on hold, because both sides want to see what happens next. Neither Carmelo or LAL wish to make a deal if they don’t reach the postseason.
Anthony is looking for a team who has chances of doing something noticeable in the playoffs, and risking now by joining the Lakers who are 10th in the West is not a good option for him. It could easily turn out for the player to have only 18 games until the end of the season, before finishing it.
Lakers too, have other things on their mind, as they look for a center to boost the frontcourt. Right now, the rumors are suggesting that Zach Randolph might land in LA and join LeBron and the boys in pursuit of that 8th place in the conference.
Following this news, the stories about Carmelo’s future immediately began circling the internet. One team appears in almost all the combinations.
Believe it or not, the Boston Celtics. Brad Stevens’ side isn’t officially pursuing the former New York Knicks superstar, but according to many sources, Melo might just be the factor which could strengthen Celtics’ bad chemistry.
The most successful franchise in the history of the league is struggling at the moment, and they are looking for a way to shake things up and wake the team before the start of the playoffs. The gap between young players and the older ones is too big, and Boston needs somebody to sort that out.

Another place which might be a good choice for Carmelo is Indiana, who lost its best player and the best attacking weapon Victor Oladipo, due to an injury. The offensive potential Anthony possesses, will for sure be useful for Nate McMillan, especially in the playoffs. Oladipos’ absence is a huge blow, primarily because of his scoring contribution. For now, the Pacers are covering that very well, but there is no doubt that they need more help in the playoffs.
Anthony has enough experience and still has enough quality to have a solid 10 to 15 minutes on the floor, and that would fit in perfectly in this case.
The player himself didn’t talk about anything regarding his future and is keeping himself away from the media at the moment.
He started the season in Houston, arriving in Texas as one of the key additions in Rockets’ offensive machinery. But that stint lasted for only 10 games, before being separated from the team. He was traded to Chicago on 22nd January, before being waived on February the 1st.
Despite the fact that he has 34 years and is way beyond his peak, Anthony is still one of the most popular players in the USA, and a good addition to any team, which is why his future presents an interesting topic.
