The Washington Football Team defeated the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football, 17-15, thus becoming a legit playoff contender.
The Football Team defended the rival’s two-point conversion with 15 seconds to go, thus preventing the overtime and posting its fifth victory of the year. The franchise from DC is now 5-6 and has chances to enter the postseason, despite all the problems with injuries.
“We’re not out of [the hole] completely,” coach Ron Rivera said. “It’s about learning and growing and it’s all part of the process we had to go through to develop as a team.”
With 15 seconds left, Kendall Fuller broke Wilson’s two-point conversion pass, picking up the former MVP. It turned out to be the biggest and the most important play of the game.
However, a two-point conversion was on Seattle’s side, during the second period. After JC McKissic’s receiving TD, the Football Team wanted to go for a two-point conversion, yet Rasheem Green would take the football and return it all the way to the WFT’s endzone, earning two points for his unit.
The home team had a chance to seal the game with 2:25 left, going for the 4th-and-goal. At first, it seemed as if Heinicke successfully found Logan Thomas in the endzone, but the officials reviewed the play, overturning the decision due to an incomplete pass.
Russell Wilson took over from there, moving the ball 96 yards down the field and eventually scoring a TD. However, the conversion try failed, and the game ended with the Seahawks’ fourth loss in a row. This is something that Wilson never experienced in his career.
Even though Seattle’s QB won the fight with Heinicke, his team wasn’t up to the task. Wilson ended the night with 247 passing yards, for two TDs, and without a single pick, being the top rusher in the team, collecting 16 yards on the ground.
Overall, the Seahawks generated miserable 34 running yards, while on the other side, the hosts produced 152, Antonio Gibson having 111. Alex Collins carried the football seven times for 14 yards and a lost fumble.
“It’s just such an obvious issue for us not converting,” Pete Carroll said. “We didn’t run the ball well at all tonight.”
End of an era in Seattle?

Tyler Locket had 96 receiving yards, Gerald Everett 37, and a TD catch, while Freddie Swain added 32 and a TD reception. DK Metcalf posted only one reception for 13 yards.
Heinicke threw for 223 yards, one TD, and a pick. As said before, Gibson had 111 rushing yards and 35 through the air, McKissic posted 30 rushing yards and a TD on the ground, plus five receptions for 26 yards and a receiving score. Terry McLaurin had four passes for 51 yards.
The Football Team has chances to enter the playoffs, and their destiny will be decided over the next four games. At first, they head for Las Vegas to meet the Raiders, before having a four-game division streak against the Cowboys at home, then the Eagles and the Cowboys on the road, before getting back home to face Philly once more.
On the other side, it seems that the playoff race is over for the Seahawks, who are 3-8 at this moment, far behind all the rivals. Next week, they will host the NFC West foes, the San Francisco 49ers, before traveling to Houston and LA to face the Rams. Their management can already turn to the offseason and see how to keep the unhappy Russell Wilson.
