Washington Football Team won the NFC East, beating the Philadelphia Eagles on the road, 20-14. The last game of the regular part of the year solved who will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round.
Football Team had a rough year, which started with them changing the logo and the name of the team, continued with Kyle Allen’s injury, and in the end Dwayne Haskins’ release. Coach Ron Rivera battled with cancer, and defeated the same, while Alex Smith managed to recover from his gruesome injury and complications caused by the same afterward.
It could be said that this playoff berth is a wonderful reward for the entire organization that faced so many adversities and problems in recent months.
“This one’s special just because of how hard it was,” Rivera said. “How tough everything was, how it’s been on the guys, the organization. There’s a great group of young men in there, and we’re trying to do things the right way.”
Alex Smith didn’t have a good game, but his team won. That’s been the case since he got back on the field. Smith isn’t anywhere near his previous stats, furthermore, he is mediocre, but the team is winning.
He threw 162 yards vs. the Eagles for two TDs and two interceptions, suffering three sacks.
“We had some bumps early, kept fighting, and here we are,” he said.
One TD toss ended with Terry McLaurin and the second with Logan Thomas. The Football Team had a 10-0 lead but allowed Jalen Hurts to rush for two touchdowns, and to turn the result upside down. However, another 10 points of the guests were enough to break the Eagles, who were shorthanded in the final quarter.
Their head coach Doug Pederson introduced Nate Sudfield on the pitch, leaving Hurts on the bench. While many believe that his action was dishonest, the Eagles earned the sixth pick at the upcoming draft. It was either that or to select three places lower.
The collateral of this decision were the New York Giants, who needed the Eagles’ win to reach the playoffs. They were the losers of the night. Pederson denied all the accusations that he wanted to lose the match.
“Yes, I was coaching to win,” Pederson said. “Yes, that was my decision solely. Nate has been here four years and I felt he deserved an opportunity to get some snaps.”
Sudfeld had 32 passing yards, one interception, and he ran for 12 yards. Hurts was slightly better, 72 yards, also one intercepted pass. But as we mentioned, he had two rushing touchdowns.

The season for the Eagles is over, and they have big decisions to make. One of them will be what to do with Carson Wentz. He already indicated that there’s no way for him to be a backup QB. The Eagles can trade him, and earn a few more picks or new players who would be useful in team rebuild.
The Football Team has a game coming up already next Saturday, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at FedEx Stadium. With a win over the Eagles, they didn’t only secure the playoffs but also the home-field advantage.
Brady and the bunch are looking good at the moment, and are coming as solid favorites in this matchup. But having in mind that the hosts are on the rise as well, this should be one very interesting matchup.
