MDL Paris Major is taking place in Disneyland Paris from May 4 to 12. The prize fund for the competition is one million dollars and 15 thousand DPC points. The competition is a great opportunity for the top teams to secure their ticket for the International 9. The group stage of the competition ended a few days ago, now the sides compete in the playoffs.
We picked this match for you since it is between the underdogs, Mineski against the Kings of the competitive Dota 2, Virtus Pro. Both teams are competing in the lower bracket of the tournament, meaning that the loser will be eliminated from the competition. Let’s have a look if VP can beat Mineski or can the SEA team has what it takes to shock the world and win this encounter.
Virtus Pro vs Mineski – MDL Disneyland Major
Virtus.Pro has been quite exceptional in the 2018/2019 DPC Circuit. After their impressive campaign in the previous circuit, the CIS team was tipped to win The International 8. Yet they finished at the 5th-6th place, losing to Evil Geniuses in the lower bracket. The organization kept its faith on the roster and made no changes. The CIS responded positively and won the first major of the tournament, The Kuala Lumpur Major. Before the competition, the side also won Maincast Autumn Brawl by beating No Pangolier 3-0. They also finished at third place in the ESL One Hamburg 2018.
The victory in the Major was enough for the side to secure the qualification to the TI9. Yet VP continued to reign supreme in the DPC. They finished at 5th place in the MegaFon Winter Clash. After that, they won silver in The Chongqing Major followed by a third-place finish at the MDL Macau 2019 and the finalist of DreamLeague Season 11. The roster officially secured its 100th win under its new coach, Arseny ArsZeeqq Usov in the qualifiers of MDL Disneyland® Paris Major. He joined the team after the TI8 and the team has improved by leaps and bounds under his tactics since it only took them 152 games to accomplish this feat.
Seeing them getting such impressive results throughout the season really makes us wonder why the team failed to shine in the 2018 TI. The side might not be the world champions, yet they were the best competitive team that year. VP is currently following the same footsteps of past year endeavors. We believe that they surely have what it takes to reach the grand finale. Before competing in the TI9, VP will have to first compete in the EPICENTER and perform well in the MDL Major to exhibit that the side is not taking things for granted.
The CIS team started well in the MDL. They won their first game against beastcoast, after that they beat the TI7 champions, Team Liquid to get the first spot in the group. Despite this strong start, VP was completely decimated by the reigning world champions, OG in the first round of the playoffs. VP last both matches of the best of two series in less than 45 minutes. They lost the first game in 23 minutes while the second game lasted for only 19 minutes.
Mineski
Less than two weeks ago, Mineski organization recruited Tan 71 Weni as the official coach of the roster. He already worked for Mineski last year. Under the leadership of Weni, the team won the Dota 2 Asia Championship 2018, and also performed at The International 2018, where it took 9-12 place. It is not surprising to see him back into the ranks of the SEA team since this season, Mineski was able to qualify for only one DPC series tournament. The team took 9-12 place in the DreamLeague Major. In the Dota Pro Circuit 2018/2019 season, Mineski often performed without a coach.
Before the arrival of Tan 71, the team competed in the ESL Mumbai. They finished at 2nd place after beating the likes of Team Team, The Pango and Natus Vincere. The only team Mineski was unable to beat in the competition was Keen Gaming whom they lost the finale of the competition. In the Paris Major, the side didn’t have the best of starts since they finished the second from the bottom after losing twice to PSG.LGD and getting beaten by Pain Gaming. They had to win the best of one series against Team Empire to qualify for the next round. Yet we believe that this is the end of the road of the SEA side.
No match for VP
It is not biased to say that Mineski doesn’t fall in the class of Virtus.Pro. VP might have been beaten to get dropped to the lower bracket, but the defeat came from the reigning world champions. In the last major, VP had a similar run, where they were knocked down to the lower bracket by Fnatic. Yet they made it to the grand finale and lost to Vici Gaming after a close best of five series 3-2. In the DPC Rankings, VP sit at 1st place with 11,100 points meanwhile Mineski sit way down at a 16th place with 246 points. We are not judging the quality of Mineski, we are just saying that the team doesn’t come close to VP and will lose this encounter.
Virtus.Pro 2-1 Mineski
