Leon “Rocky” Edwards and Belal Muhammad will be in the middle of attention this Saturday, as these two fighters highlight the UFC Fight Night, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. After a long pause, Edwards continues his quest for the title-match, trying to finally shut down all the doubters who are disputing his eight-match winning streak. As for Muhammad, the Palestinian has a solid record as well, but so far, his experiences against the top welterweight opponents haven’t been that good. This is why he needs to win Saturday’s event, and show that he is more than the average UFC member.
Preview
Leon Edwards (18-3, -265) hasn’t fought for 20 months. The COVID-19 pandemic massacred his efforts to enter the ring, with him seeing several fight cancellations against Khamzat Chimaev. This was supposed to be the match that might supply the organization with the next challenger for Kamaru Usman, but it didn’t happen for various reasons.
Also, Rocky was trying to get into any big-time fight, challenging Tyron Woodley, Colby Covington, Usman, etc, but each time, he was left aside to wait for another chance.
His last loss came five and a half years ago against Kamaru, and ever since, the English fighter has been posting victories. He would beat Rafael dos Anjos in the previous event, and prior to that one, had a close call against Gunnar Nelson, triumphing via split decision. Edwards has wins over Donald Cerrone, Peter Sobotta, Vicente Luque etc.
He is a strong fighter who knows everything in the ring. Boxing, wrestling, possesses a very good mindset, and is tactically well equipped. On top of everything, Edwards is in superb physical shape, with one of the best cardio in the division.
Belal Muhamad (18-3, +245) is also one of the most endurable fighters among the welterweights. From 18 wins he posted, 13 came after a decision. “Remember the name,” as the fans call him, has four straight right now, three of them coming via unanimous decision, vs. Curtis Millender, Takashi Sato, Lyman Good, and Dhiego Lima.
When looking at Muhammad’s overall score, you’ll see plenty of victories, but the problem is that all of them are against mediocre fighters. He met with notable rivals twice and lost on both occasions – against Geoff Neal with a unanimous decision and suffering a KO against Luque.
Muhammad is predominantly a good wrestler, who really does have incredible stamina, but other than that, he is an average or even under-average fighter. His boxing skills are pretty poor, and if he doesn’t take the rival to the ground, the chances for Muhammad to win are pretty slim.
Prediction
Edwards will win this one without any problems. Furthermore, we predict his stoppage win, probably via KO. With all due respect to Muhammad, he isn’t at the same level as Rocky, who is among the top three welterweight challengers right now. Even with all the rust after a 20-month layoff, Edwards is a far superior man in this matchup. Therefore, bet on his victory, don’t hesitate too much.
