Petr Yan and Jose Aldo are participating in one of three title battles at the upcoming UFC 251. After seeing Henry Cejudo retiring from the MMA sport, the bantamweight throne was left empty,. That is why Dana White decided to organize a battle between these two guys, who are pretty different types of fighters. As you know, all the matches are to take place at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
On these links you have the previews for Usman vs. Masvidal and Volkanovski vs. Holloway fights.
Preview
Yan (-210) comes into this event as a favorite, and a big one we need to add. The Russian fighter is one of the younger guys whose time is yet to come. Many see him as a long-term champion in this category, regardless of the outcome of this fight. According to their belief, Yan possesses the skill and the power to become the undisputed champ, and not only that.
The experts think that Yan still didn’t reach his full potential and that he has more room to develop and improve.
He is a rampaging fighter, whose burst can slice any opponent in a matter of moments. His leg kicks, especially the ones that target the opponents’ head, are devastating, and we could say that there aren’t many people in the UFC with such power right now.
After all we’ve seen how Urijah Faber ended his episode against Russia. One more thing is that once he starts coming forward, and begins with dictating the tempo, in the majority of the situation, the rival can’t follow the intensity.
Aldo (+200) is one of the most significant fighters in UFC history. He had several legendary matches, and was the lightweight champion. Now, after this sentence, you get the picture of what this guy is all about. He had 34 fights, and 28 wins with 6 losses.
Now four of those six defeats were in the last six bouts. At first, Aldo lost his featherweight title against Max Holloway, and lost the rematch too. After that, he would defeat Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano before losing to Alexander Volkanovski via unanimous decision, and on his bantamweight debut, against Marlon Moraes.
This was a very controversial match, because Moraes won via split decision, even though nobody who was watching the fight gave him an edge in any way. The overall impression was that Aldo had a solid advantage on the scorecards.
Unlike his rival, he is more of a fighter who likes to move and dance around the octagon, and also, Aldo’s boxing techniques are much better than Yan and he does have more experience than the Russian.
Then again, he is much older than him.
Prediction
We are going to go with Yan here, because of one very important fact which had been neglected by many – Aldo’s years. We deliberately left the last sentence apart from the entire paragraph, just for you to focus on that one. Aldo is a bit worn out, while on the other side, we have a guy who is constantly going forward, without looking anything else.
Yan is a machine whose tempo keeps on going up as time goes by. Because of this, bet on him to win at the odds at -200.
