The UFC 245 is over, but what is left behind him still draws too much attention. There is plenty of news and rumors, along with some interviews which caused the publicity. So, pretty much the rumble in the media is still not over, although the event is.
Of all the stories, the most important is that Colby Covington might be out for six months due to his broken jaw. During his loss to Kamaru Usman, the American fighter sustained one tremendous hit, which apparently cracked his nondisplaced midline mandibular. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended his fighting activities until he fully recovers from this injury, and unless Covington fixes that with surgery, the Commission will suspend him for six months.
Usman will, too, have to fix his left thumb to avoid a potential six-month ban.
Aldo Can’t Belive he Didn’t Won
Meanwhile, the guy who didn’t pick up any injuries but felt hurt was Jose Aldo, who lost to Marlon Moraes via split decision. The former champion is positive that he won the fight, and to be honest, he has every right to believe so.
Moraes started the match better, and Aldo doesn’t bring that into question, but afterward, he was the one who controlled things in the octagon.
“Rounds two and three were clear for me. I was the only one landing in the second, and walked forward the entire time in the third, landing jabs and answering everything he tried to do.”
Aldo was pretty upset after the fight, and he expressed that during the interview. Many were left in wonder how the judges voted in Moraes’ favor. The fighter himself was too.
“I don’t know how I lost this fight. I don’t know how anyone saw him winning. I think I won all rounds. I respect Marlon, but I can’t see this result.”
Colby vs. Woodley – A Potential Fight
Dana White, meanwhile, spoke about the future and not the UFC 245. But his story was initiated with Colby Covington’s good performance against Usman. The president of the organization stated that his vision includes Covington and Tyron Woodley, meeting sometime in the future. Yet, he is aware that Colby needs to heal his body first before coming back to ring again.
“I’d love to do him and [Tyron] Woodley next. That would be a fun fight, but if he has a broken jaw, he ain’t going to be around for a minute,” White stated.
The payroll for this event was revealed, and it stands at $4.08 million. The highest-paid fighters were Usman and Colby, who received $500,000 plus the bonuses for the Fight of the Night, $50,000.
Amanda Nunes was next on the list with $450,000, and after the Lioness, came Jose Aldo, who, although lost, received $400,000, far more than his rival. Moraes would end the night $220,000 wealthier, half for the appearance and the other half for the win. If by any chance, Aldo won, his earnings would almost be the same as headline fighters’. That still proves that despite age and the fact that he isn’t that dominant as before, the Brazilian is still a magnet for the fans.
A similar situation was in the case of Petr Yan, who demolished Urijah Faber but received a far lesser fee. The American added $250,000 to his account, while Yan received $182,000, $66,000 to show, $66,000 for the victory, and $50,000 for the Fight of the Night bonus.
