Poland meets Belgium in a derby of the UEFA Nations League group 4 of the A league. After three rounds, the two sides are leveled in the standings with four points each. The first meeting saw Belgium’s rampage and humiliation of the Polish unit – 6-1, arguably the hardest loss for this generation of Poland’s players. They now have a chance to get even, but to be honest, it will be a tough task. Belgium is a very tough unit.
Preview
Poland (+230) opened the UNL with a win but after that, failed to triumph in the next two events. The Polish side was batter than Wales, 2-1 in the opener, yet after that lost in Belgium, 6-1.
Interestingly, they would take the lead, after which came a flurry of punches from the other side, resulting in a knockout of the guests. Yet unexpectedly, the Polish unit recovered, snapping one point from the Netherlands on the road, 2-2.
They had a 0-2 lead, but Oranje’s two goals tied the game. Furthermore, Memphis Depay missed a penalty in the stoppage time, and the Poles went home with at least one point, which could be a big deal in the end. Six of the past seven of their events were with both teams scoring and five during that span ended with three or more goals.
Belgium (+120) posted mixed results in three UNL games, losing at home to the Netherlands 1-4 at the opener, then beating Poland 6-1, and in the end playing 1-1 with Wales on the road.
They aren’t consistent at all, but that is understandable because lots of their players aren’t very keen on participating in this competition. Kevin De Bruyne was the first one who publicly stated that the UNL matchups are “overrated friendly games.” We aren’t going to comment on that now.
Only one of their last nine games hasn’t seen both teams to score. Six were with over 2.5 goals, and that is proof that this unit has a very strong offensive mentality.
Latest News
Poland doesn’t have injury troubles, or at least their staff hasn’t reported any. Lewandowski should be back in the lineup after skipping the game in Amsterdam.
On the other side, Belgium decided to rest some players, so Kevin De Bruyne, Yannick Carrasco, and Thomas Meunier didn’t even leave for Poland. Witsel and Boyata are questionable.
Head to Head
Belgium smashed Poland 6-1 on June 8, in their first meeting after 15 years. Lewandowski scored in the 28th minute to give the guests a lead, but it appears that he only angered the hosts. Trossard with a brace, Witsel, De Bruyne, Dendocker, and Openda rolled over the Poles in the remaining of the event.
Prediction
Poland has a nice chance to get even here, because of Martinez’s decision to allow some players to leave the camp. But still, we feel that the best pick, in this case, would be for both teams to score because the respective defenses are way too weaker than the attacks. The odds on this pick are currently -110, which is great. They certainly have a good value.
Pick: Both teams to score -110
