The UCL round of 16 rematch between Real Madrid and PSG should bring drama and excitement. These two sides know one another very well and have quite the ties between themselves. Apart from meeting several times in the last few years, the latest link is Kylian Mbappe, who reportedly signed a deal with Los Blancos. That didn’t prevent the French from nailing a game-winner in the first leg and providing a minimal lead for his current team. We really hope to see one enjoyable event.
Preview
Real Madrid (+145) defeated Real Sociedad 4-1, this Saturday night. They were down 0-1 early on but quickly turned the result upside down to demolish the rivals and create a good intro for Wednesday’s event. This victory came following two more, both with clean sheets.
The first was against Alaves at Santiago Bernabeu, 3-0, and after that on the road vs. Rayo Vallecano, 0-1. A victory over Sociedad was the first match after six straight in which Real played that didn’t end with just one side netting.
Los Blancos are terrifying at home, having 14 consecutive contests without a defeat. During that streak, they posted 12 wins and two draws, usually scoring two or more goals, while on the other side protecting its net eight times.
PSG (+165) isn’t doing well. They lost two of the past three games, both on the road, showing numerous weaknesses, among them an inability to solve aggressive and packed midfield. Also, on the other side, we have to say that PSG’s backline displayed uncertainty and massive oscillations.
The first loss was in Nantes, 3-1, and after that the Parisians beat St Etienne with the same result, only at home. The most recent event was in Nice, and the hosts beat the Saints once again this year, with the final result 1-0.
By the way, six of PSG’s last 10 games were with only one side scoring. That is Pochettino’s signature all over the place.
Latest News
Federico Valverde is out for this one for Real. Tough, the more important thing is that Toni Kroos won’t play either. The German veteran is one of the best players on the team, despite his age.
Paredes is doubtful for the guests, but apart from him, all the other players are ready, including Mbappe, who skipped the game in Nice.
Head to Head Games
Mbappe delivered a nasty blow to Real in the first leg, scoring a goal in the game’s last minutes. PSG was better in this event, but Real defended very well, with Courtois stopping Messi’s penalty.
The Saints didn’t lose against Real in the past three direct meetings.
Prediction
Our pick here is over 1.5 goals in the second half, and here is the explanation for it. Ancelotti will be careful in the first 45 minutes and he won’t pressure too much, the same as PSG, who has the lead. Yet as time goes by, the intensity on the field will have to increase, and regardless of the result, one side will attack, which increases the possibility for goals.
Pick: Over 1.5 goals in the second half -110
