Group B of the UEFA Champions League is a very interesting one. Atletico Madrid and Porto are favorites for the next round, but seeing Leverkusen and Club Brugge advancing as well wouldn’t be so odd. Take five minutes of your time and see the short preview and predictions for this assembly.
Atletico Madrid
Many forgot that Atletico ended their last year’s UCL campaign, fighting toe-to-toe against Man City. This team has a much higher quality than anyone thinks, and we believe that Diego Simeone’s crew isn’t receiving enough credit.
They had a few departures, but on the other side, landed several top-quality players like Axel Witsel, Saul Niguez, and Alvaro Morata, who are back from loans. With the already present crew, led by Joao Felix, we think this team has a very high ceiling this year.
Porto
The Dragons sold several of their key players last year, but their talent factory is working overtime, producing incredible players year after year. Vitinha and Fabio Vieira brought them a massive amount of money, and Porto invested that in a couple of bright prospects.
Their system was established in the past, and that’s one of the big pluses for the former European champions. Porto always faces transitions and changes but manages to stay on the top level. The 22-year-old center-forward Evanilson is the next big thing, and we advise you to keep an eye on this Brazilian.
Club Brugge
The Belgian champs have been regular members of the UEFA Champions League over the last couple of years. Brugge gradually established itself not just as a participant, but as a force that needs to be credited, and the Belgians showed that in the past already. Fast, offensive-minded football is what attracts the fans, and Club Brugge tries to play like that.
Charles de Ketealare is gone, but that is nothing new for a team that supports itself with transfers. On the other side, a few talents came, most notably Ferran Jutgla, who didn’t have a place in Barcelona, nor did he get a chance to show his worth.
Leverkusen
This team is one of the most popular when it comes to inquiries. A few of their players are on the radar of several top European teams, like Florian Wirtz and Moussa Diaby, and it is expected to see them switching kits by the finish of the deadline.
The team plays offensive-minded football without too many calculations, and sometimes that works, and in some cases, it doesn’t. The individual quality is fantastic, with several players able to make trouble, but on certain occasions, Bayer lacks team spirit.
Prediction
Atletico should win this group, with Porto sitting behind. The Spanish team is very strong in all positions, much better than all the other rivals. Porto has experience of playing in the Champions League, and that’s their advantage besides a solid roster. The battle for third place will be interesting. Club Brugge has more experience than Leverkusen, but the quality of their players is at a much lower level than Bayer’s. We believe the Bundesliga team will end up third and continue in the UEFA Europa League.
