Soccer fans all around the world witnessed history tonight. Tottenham Hotspurs reached the finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history. And they managed to do that after an incredible game in Amsterdam.
The Spurs won 3-2, with Lucas Moura’s dagger in the last seconds of the injury time. The Brazilian international shocked not only Ajax’s fans but the entire world, as nobody expected to see something like this, especially after the first 45 minutes.
Following a desperate long pass towards the goal of the hosts, Delle Alli got his legs on the ball and saw Moura running into the box. The Englishman assisted to his teammate who smoothly reacted and beat Onana, sending all the Ajax’s players on the ground in desperation.

“It’s impossible to explain what I am feeling,” said the hero of the Spurs, “I am very, very happy and proud of my teammates.”
Previously, the Spurs were down 2-0 at Amsterdam Arena and didn’t play at their usual level. But Moura, alongside Delle Ali and the rest of Tottenham’s crew, resisted and defied the Lancers, trying to find a way to score the first goal. And they did it in the 55th minute when Ali sent a pass to Moura who noticed the way to the net and sent the ball.
After the match, the Brazilian told the journalists that he always believed in his teammates, regardless of the result and the conditions on and of the pitch.
“I always believed in my teammates. We have a lot of qualities, even without key players. That’s our team, that’s our family,” Moura said.
Four minutes later, the Brazilian gained possession in the goalkeeper area, following huge chaos, and Lasse Schone’s mistake. The Danish midfielder didn’t clear the ball when needed, and Moura stole it from him netting once more.
Tensions were high in Amsterdam in those moments. Ajax’s players pulled themselves together and started playing better. They had a few chances, and even threatened pretty good once, when Hakim Ziyech’s shot hit the post.
"The best moment in my life."
"I need to say thank you to my teammates, because what I am living here is unbelievable."

On the other side, Tottenham too didn’t hesitate to go up front with everything they have and that eventually paid off in the end.
Ajax had everything in their hands. De Ligt scored with a header after a corner kick, and broke the lock of the guests with seven minutes into the contest. Ziyech beat Lloris with a fabulous shot from the left side, inside the box in the 35th minute, and both goals came after Dusan Tadic’s assists. The Lancers were setting the pace, leading, controlling the game.
Plus there was a one-goal lead from London.
“It was like the ground disappeared from under our feet. So close. We were so close,” Matthijs De Ligt said after the game.
The 19-year old who amazed entire Europe with his performances and quality was evidently disappointed, and disturbed, which is understandable after a loss like this one.
Except for those 45 minutes tonight, Ajax was a better side in this matchup, which is why this teenager regrets.
Ajax’s coach Eric ten Hag said that sometimes soccer isn’t that beautiful.
“This is the cruel side of football that we have to endure tonight. We have to go on.”

Tottenham reached the finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history and will face Liverpool in Madrid on June the 1st.
For the first time since Chelsea and Man United met in Moscow back in 2008, the English Premier League will give both finalists in this competition.
After Spanish domination which lasted for several years, the new European champion will come from another country.
But that domination of English club soccer could be even bigger if Arsenal and Chelsea advance to the finals of the Europa League after tomorrow’s rematches.
That would mean that all the finalists of the European competitions are from the EPL.
