Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl LV, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9. The incredible Tom Brady won his seventh Vince Lombardi trophy, snatching the SB MVP as well.
This earned Brady the honor of being the only QB besides Payton Manning to win Super Bowl with two different teams. Brady is by far the most successful quarterback with seven titles, and continues to push the limits of possible even at the age of 43.
“We came together at the right time,” said Brady about his team. “I think we knew this was going to happen, did we?” he would ask the teammates while giving the post-game interview.
Brady had three touchdowns passes, two to his long-time target and friend, Rob Gronkowski, and one to the teammate he always wanted, Antonio Brown. No.12 needed with 201 yards, completing 21 of his 29 passes, without a single pick.
Leonard Fournette was unstoppable with 135 yards from the scrimmage and one rushing TD. It was the moment when Bucs broke the reigning champs, with Fournette breaking their defense with a 27-yard run.
“He was amazing and just did it all. Blocked, ran, just had an incredible season. We got him pretty late, and he just showed up big. It was amazing how he performed in the biggest moments.”
Meanwhile, Gronk turned up the engines with two straight TDs, posting 67 yards in six receptions, and showing up when it is important, as usual. Antonio Brown delivered a punch that shook the Chiefs, in the last seconds of the first half, with one of the most controversial players in the NFL continuing his excellent streak of games in the past seven weeks.
However, those who made the difference in tonight’s game were the defenders, with the Bucs’ crew dominating the field and harassing Patrick Mahomes throughout the entire game. One of the best players in the league over the past three years was looking helpless against Suh, Barrett, and the rest of Tampa Bay’s defense team
In the end, he had 270 yards with zero touchdowns and two picks. Furthermore, Mahomes was sacked three times and threw multiple passes in the last moment before being caught.
“They were the better team today,” Mahomes said. “They beat us pretty good, the worst I think I’ve been beaten in a long time.”
Travis Kelce was defiant and tried to change things, with the Chiefs TE posting 133 yards in 10 catches, while Tyreek Hill had 73 in seven. Still, that wasn’t enough for the “visitors” to score more than just nine points, all of them from field goals. This is by far the worst offensive performance of the Chiefs since Mahomes became a starter.
That is because of Todd Bowless who made a great strategy, analyzing the Chiefs’ gameplan top to bottom and finding a few things which were suitable for the Bucs to exploit. Bowless is the hero behind the scene and probably the important piece in tonight’s win.
Brady and the majority of the current team will come back next season, which allows the Bucs’ fans to dream about another title. Right now, the bookmakers set the chances for them to win the title at 11/1, while the top favorites are the Chiefs with 13/2.
With this match, yet another incredible NFL season is over. We now have to wait for a few months before seeing all these guys on the field once again. Until then, we have the NFL Draft and the free agency, with both promising interesting developments despite not having any football.
