The San Francisco 49ers went against all the odds to beat arguably the biggest Super Bowl contender, the LA Rams, this Monday night. The final result of this event was 31-10 for Kyle Shanahan’s boys, who were superb in pretty much all the aspects of the game.
For many, it was incredible to see the 2019 NFC champions dropping down this much in two years, playing with pretty much all the key players that reached the Super Bowl. Yes, there have been some hard blows due to injuries, but overall, the 49ers performed far below any decent expectations.
Well, last night, Jimmy G and his crew found the rhythm early on, started punishing the Rams on the ground, and at least for one game looked like a serious playoff team.
“That’s the way we want to do it. Just running the ball, converting on third down and then score at the end,” said Garoppolo who ended the game with 15 completions in 19 attempts for 182 yards and two touchdown passes.
One of those passes was on the opening drive, which pretty much saw everything that the 49ers’ offense can offer, starting from the heavy running up to passing.
After that, we saw the defense stepping up, with Jimmie Ward picking Matt Staford’s pass and returning it for 27 yards. That was no doubt the moment then the Rams suffered a massive shock, as San Francisco closed the first period with a 14-0 lead.
For one moment, it seemed that they might bounce back, as Stafford moved the ball down the field quickly enough, and less than two minutes later, Tyler Higbee had a TD-catch for 14-7. But it turned out to be the only noticeable thing from the LA’s offense in this match.
From that moment on, Deebo Samuel was on fire, adding two more touchdowns, one on the ground and the other through the air. Samuel had 36 rushing and 97 receiving yards, posting one of the best games of the campaign.
Though the guy who made a huge difference last night was Elijah Mitchell, rushing for 91 yards on 27 carries. He was an enigma for the Rams, whose terrifying defense couldn’t do anything to stop the RB.
George Kittle caught a TD pass of his own, confirming that he slowly gets back into the rhythm.
The Rams were disappointed following the clash, and each one of their players admitted that the 49ers were a better team on the field.
“This was a humbling night for us as a team, and a great opportunity for us to be able to take a deep breath, step away, look at the things that we need to correct, particularly offensively over the last couple of weeks,” their head coach Sean McVay said.

Los Angeles Rams now have two defeats in a row, and are heading on a bye week. Matt Stafford threw for 243 yards for one TD and two picks, suffering two sacks, but he wasn’t the problem. Poor rushing provided only 52 running yards which made the Rams’ game one-dimensional.
On the other side, the defenders weren’t up to the task, and the 49ers slowly started pulling away.
They have almost two weeks to recover, heal and straighten up, before meeting the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau.
As for the 49ers, they head down to Florida, to face the Jacksonville Jaguars and, after that host the Minnesota Vikings at Levi’s Stadium.
