The German Super Cup, between Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, is one of the most interesting matches scheduled for the upcoming weekend. Bayern will try to improve the impression from the previous season, during which they experienced plenty of turbulences and luckily won the Bundesliga title. By all means, they haven’t deserved it. On the other side, RB had a very busy summer, losing a couple of big-time stars but earning massive amounts of money and bringing a few pretty perspective names. The game is at the Allianz Arena in Munich, where Bayern defends the trophy from the previous year.
Here are the previews for EPL Round 1:
- Manchester United vs. Wolves
- Arsenal vs. Nottingham Forest
- Chelsea vs. Liverpool
- Newcastle vs. Aston Villa
Preview
Bayern Munich (-195) comes into this season with plenty of pressure. Following a preseason period, the fans have mixed emotions, aware that this team has the quality, but knowing they won’t be competitive in Europe without a typical striker upfront. After Lewandowski’s departure, the system isn’t working quite right.
The Bavarians lost to Manchester City in Japan, 1-2, then beat Kawasaki, 1-0, before coming on top against Liverpool, 4-3, and Monaco, 4-2. Now, they scored goals here, but against City, they weren’t dangerous at all.
Thomas Tuchel has plenty of concerns because he isn’t a fan favorite. The former Borussia Dortmund head coach isn’t suitable that much for Bayern’s offensive-minded style and needs to adapt to it more. Otherwise, we might see the Bavarians struggling again.
RB Leipzig (+400) lost key players during the summer – Guardiol went to City, Szoboszlai to Liverpool, and Nkunku to Chelsea. All in all, they are masters in making big-time transfers and earning from the same. They are probably the best team in Europe for that right now.
On the other side, some pretty talented names landed in Leipzig, like Xavi Simons, Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko, Nicolas Seiwald, and Christoph Baumgartner. We’ll see if the head coach Marco Rose manages to adapt them to the system and otherwise on short notice because there isn’t too much time for the Bulls.
Rose likes to see his team dictate the tempo and attack, and he tried to impose such an approach in each club he managed in the past, Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Monchengladbach and Dortmund, and now here.
Latest News
Raphael Guerreiro, Eric Choupo-Moting, Thomas Muller, and Manuel Neuer are all out for this event.
Amadou Haidara, Baumgartner, Andre Silva, and Lukas Klostermann are all injured for the Bulls.
Head to Head Games
After a series of losses, the Bulls managed to stay unbeaten against Bayern last season. The first meeting at the Red Bull Arena saw a 1-1 draw, while in Munich, we saw the guests dismantling Bayern, 1-3. Six of the past seven direct meetings saw both teams netting, and five of seven ended with at least four goals.
Prediction
Even though Bayern isn’t at the level from the previous years, they are still massive favorites, particularly because they have a reshaped Leipzig against themselves. The Bulls need some time to create chemistry, as they have plenty of new faces in the locker room. Bayern should and will win this event, and that would be our pick here.
Pick: Bayern Munich -195
