Steph Curry’s 62 points were the main reason why Golden State Warriors defeated the Portland Trail Blazers, 137-122.
This was the new career-high for the Warriors’ superstar, who was on fire against the conference rivals. Curry shot 18-for-31 from the floor, sinking 8 threes in 15 attempts. He was also 18-for-19 from the free-throw line.
I love everything about what this game offers, the competitiveness and the fire,” Curry said. “I never run from it. Just excited to be in that atmosphere where I get to play at the highest level and do what I do.”
Previously, Curry’s career-high was against the New York Knicks on the road, 54 points.
The Warriors showed excellent composure and resilience right from the start, and even though the guests opened the game better, Steve Kerr’s side solved that one quickly.
Hosts took over the lead during the middle of the first period, and after that, denied Portland’s attempt to bounce back. The halftime saw the Warriors pulling away to a double-digit lead, 66-54, and during the third sequence, they were already off to 20 points, 92-72. Following that, it was all a routine for the hosts, who posted their third win of the year.
After a slow start, and a couple of nasty losses this team experienced, wins like these are excellent for the Warriors’ morale
“It was just a brilliant performance,” coach Steve Kerr said. “We’ve seen Steph do so many things here over the years, so many amazing nights at Oracle and now here at Chase.”
Apart from Curry, Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr had solid scoring nights. The former No.1 pick, Wiggins, ended the night with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Oubre had 17 points and five boards.
This year’s second selection from the draft, James Wiseman, had a solid performance with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Wiseman played 22 minutes, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor.
Damian Lillard scored 32 points for the visiting side. He recently became only the second player in Trail Blazers’ history with 15,000 points, joining Clyde Drexler. Dame made six threes, with four assists and rebounds.
“Fifteen thousand is a huge accomplishment, something that I’m proud of, but my work is far from done,” Lillard, who likes to play against the Warriors, said.

Some of his best games came vs. GSW, like the one from January 2020, once he splashed 61 points. This was his seventh match in a row against the Bay Area team in which he had at least 29 points.
CJ McCollum added 28 points and nine assists, with five rebounds and two steals. Portland’s two guards were 20-for-47 from the field combined.
Enes Kanter had a pretty solid role coming off the bench with 24 points and 12 rebounds, 8-for-12 for two. Unlike Jusuf Nurkic, who started the campaign a bit slow, the Turkish international plays very well.
Carmelo Anthony had just 10 points, in 27 minutes, shooting 2-for-8 and without some notable contribution. The veteran forward had just three assists with that, picking up six fouls.
The Trail Blazers meet the Chicago Bulls and the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Tuesday and Thursday before jumping to Sacramento, where they face the Kings.
The Warriors have a homestand of five consecutive games coming up, the first against the Kings already on Monday night. Back-to-back meetings with the LA Clippers are what follows, and after that, games against the Toronto Raptors and the Indiana Pacers.
