Seattle Seahawks have handed the first loss of the season to the San Francisco 49ers, 27-24. After crazy overtime in which both sides had multiple chances to win, the guests got away with a huge Monday Night Football victory. Jason Myers, a highly doubted kicker of the Seahawks scored a 42-yard field goal, with the football almost hitting the right upright.
It was an ending of a wild story at the Levi’s stadium in San Francisco, and a true divisional matchup between two sides who are Super Bowl contenders, with two MVP candidates.
“Probably the craziest game I’ve ever played in,” said Russell Wilson following the game.

He and his Seattle Seahawks were looking like unstoppable during the opening drive of the overtime. Their rivals didn’t have any medicine for the fantastic diversity they showcased. But 14 yards away from the end zone, one of the biggest candidates for the MVP award blew it all. Rookie LB Dre Greenlaw picked up his pass at the 4-yard line, returning it all the way up to the middle of the field.
The hosts were near a win, but they couldn’t convert third-and-2, thus having to settle for a field goal. The undrafted rookie Chase McLaughlin, who replaced Roby Golding in this one, missed badly from 47 yards, spoiling a solid impression he made previously.
The ball went to Seahawks who had to punt, and 49ers did the same after going three-and-out.
Coming into the fourth period everything seemed fine for the Seahawks. They had a 21-10 and the football in their possession, controlling the flow of the game. They’ve scored 21 consecutive points, and were on fire after losing 0-10 after the first quarter.
But one situation changed everything. Just 2:38 into the final period, Wilson suffered a sack, making a fumble which was recovered by his OT Germain Ifedi. However, he too fumbled the ball, which was recovered by DeForest Buckner, his second of the game. The 49ers defensive tackle would score a defensive touchdown, 12 yards long, to give the momentum to his team. It was then extended with a two-point conversion.

Wilson was back on the field, but the Seahawks had to punt after 1:39, handing the possession to the hosts once again. This time, San Francisco couldn’t reach the touchdown, but they leveled the score with McLaughlin’s 39-yard field goal.
The Seahawks had a couple of big plays on the next possession. But when they needed to convert 3-and-1 27 yards from the 49ers’ end zone, they failed. At first, Carroll decided to leave Wilson on the field, but after the timeout, he sent Myers going for a FG. Seattle’s kicker who was 3 of 8 from 40+ yards didn’t have any problems from 46 yards.
Jimmy Garoppolo won 45 yards on 10 plays to set a position for Mclaughlin, who tied the game as time expired from 47 yards.
The hosts were furious in the first period, with Jimmy G led an 83-yard drive, executing it with a TD toss to Kendrick Bourne.
Seattle had fantastic Jadeveno Clowney today, who not only made a returned fumble for a score in the second
sequence, but also had a sack was harassing Garoppolo all day long.
49ers QB suffered five sacks (33 negative yards), had one interception and two lost fumbles. He would complete 24 of his 46 passes for 248 yards and one TD.
On the other side, Wilson had similar stats, five sacks for 43 negative yards, 232 yards, 24 for 32, one TD and interception, and one fumble. Seattle had 3 fumbles lost and 4 recovered, 49ers 2 lost, and 3 recovered.
Chris Carson rushed for 89 yards in 25 carries for the guests, and was a big weapon for Carroll’s crew. He would end the night with two yards more than the entire San Francisco team. DK Metcalf had 70 receiving yards and a fumble lost, Jacob Hollister 62, Josh Gordon 27 on two catches.
Deebo Samuel was masterful for the home team with 112 yards on 8 receptions; Bourne had 42.
Up next the Seahawks (8-2) are free next week, and after that are traveling to Philadelphia to meet the Eagles. The 49ers (8-1) host the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday.
