The San Francisco 49ers have stopped the Seattle Seahawks in the final moments of the match to win 26-21 and to clinch the No.1 seed in the NFC. For the first time since 1997, the 49ers managed to end the regular part of the season at the top of the conference. But they went through hell to reach this position, and that especially applies to this match.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks lost their fourth game at home this season, something which was unthinkable before, and they are now the fifth-seeded team in the NFC and have to travel to Philly next week. However, their mindset and confidence haven’t been shooked with tonight’s loss.
“If we’ve got to play every, single game on the road (in the playoffs), that’s fine. We’ll find a way to get it done,” said Tyler Lockett.

Seattle had the last possession and a chance to win. But on two occasions, Pete Carroll’s guys were so close, but haven’t delivered the final blow. With 42 seconds to go and on fourth-and-12, Russell Willson hit John Ursua for 11 yards, to bring the football to one yard from the endzone and the top seed in the NFC.
However, the refs have called for delay of the game on the next snap, bringing back the hosts to the 6-yard line. After that, TE Jacob Hollister was stopped inches before the goal-line on the fourth down, and after the video check, the referees gave the football to the guests.
“I have experience with that Atlanta game, so I wasn’t ready to celebrate anything,” said Kyle Shanahan about that last defensive play. “I wanted to wait until I saw it on the scoreboard.”
His team relied upon runningbacks to execute last night, and Raheem Mostert and Deebo Samuel delivered all three touchdowns. Mostert had two of them on 10 carries and 57 yards, while Samuel added one, on two carries for 33 yards.
Jimmy Garropolo was waging war out there, and didn’t want to use the air game too much. He did pass for 285 yards, 18-of-22 but didn’t have any touchdown passes nor interceptions.
“Unreal,” Jimmy G said. “The defense stepped up. It was incredible.”
Samuel also added 102 yards on five catches, while George Kittle had 86 on seven receptions.
On the other side, Marshawn Lynch was back with a TD, but the Beast Mode rushed just for 34 yards on 12 carries. However, Carroll didn’t send him on the field, when Seahawks got that delay of game call.
Russell Wilson had 233 yards for two TD passes, and was 25 of 40, with one sack. He wasn’t that disappointed after the game as some might expect.
“We have everything we need. We have what it takes…We believe in that locker room,” Russ said at the press following the match.
He also added that it feels great to have Lynch besides once again and that no matter the situation, the Seahawks are confident in their capabilities.
Wilson, Lynch, Carroll, and the rest of the guys head for Philadelphia to meet the Eagles. The former champs secured the top spot in the NFC East tonight, with a win over the Giants. If they win this matchup, the Seahawks are traveling to Green Bay to face the Packers in the Divisional Round.
Meanwhile, the 49ers are awaiting the winner of the matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings.
