Richard Sherman is going to cross paths with his old team. The one where he lived the finest moments of his productive career. For the first time in that career, the 30-year old from Compton is going to face the Seattle Seahawks offence and enter the Century Link field as a member of another club.
His San Francisco 49ers are last in the NFC West with 2-9, while the Seahawks have 6-5 and are chasing the wild card spot.
The media attention before this one is focused on Sherman, as he didn’t have a proper farewell when leaving Seattle.
“You just expect after you’ve done so much for a franchise that they wouldn’t cut you while you’re hurt,” Sherman stated.
Back then, four-time Pro Bowl was recovering from a torn ACL. However, that didn’t prevent the Seahawks to release him on March 9th. That was something which really hurt one of the best cornerbacks in the last decade.
“It’s kind of more of a respect thing than anything, but they did, so you have got to kind of roll with the business.”
The reasons for such an action are still not fully exposed, but there was a hint. Russell Wilson and Sherman didn’t get along very well since the Super Bowl XLIX when they lost to the New England Patriots. Wilson was intercepted at the 1-yard line, which cost the Seahawks their second title in a row.
Ever since the franchise has been struggling, and what seemed to be one of the best teams in the last 50 years slowly faded away.
Wilson doesn’t have any bad words for his former teammate. Furthermore, he praised him earlier this week saying that Sherman is bound to be a Hall of Famer.
“He’s going to be a Hall of Fame corner,” Wilson said. “He’s a guy that meant so much to our football team when he was here.”
Meanwhile, Sherman was cold to all these compliments. The cornerback didn’t want to go deep when talking about Wilson, but he clearly indicated that Seattle’s QB isn’t one of his favourite characters.
“I don’t really have a relationship with Russell,” Sherman said. “We were teammates. We played during a very special time for the franchise.”

On the other side, Pete Carroll is someone who will always have an open door with Sherman. The player said his former coach is a good person, who gave his best to make the team better, therefore having his gratitude forever.
“Pete was a good man and a good coach and did everything he can for that franchise. I don’t have any ill will towards him at all.”
There is no doubt that there will be an extra motive not only for Sherman but for all 49ers to make a surprise and win on Sunday afternoon. Emotions are just too big to ignore them, which will make this clash even more interesting.
Sherman came to NFL in 2011, as a 154th pick drafted by the Seahawks. During his seven-year stay, he earned 4 Pro-Bowl appearances, was 3 times First-team All-Pro and once Second-team. In 2013 he led the league in interceptions, and during the same, he won his only Super Bowl. Along with Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner and Byron Maxwell, he was a part of the legendary Legion of Boom, which was the nickname for Seattle’s backfield defence.
From 2012 to 2015, they were the cornerstone of the best scoring defence in the league during those four seasons. Sherman was one of the most intimidating defenders in the league, whose contribution to the Super Bowl win was simply immeasurable.
Now, things have changed. For both Seahawks and Sherman.
