In the closing game of Saturday’s Premier League program, Manchester City successfully overcame a tough road game at Goodison Park against Everton. The Sky-Blues defeated their rivals with 1-3. Earlier today Liverpool defeated Sheffield United also on the road with 0-1, and besides this, there were six more games played.
The game in Liverpool was very interesting. Everton defied the reigning champs for quite some time, and the guests couldn’t break the solid defense of the Toffees in their usual way.
After scoring first through Gabriel Jesus in the 24th minute of the match, it seemed that City had control over the flow of the game. But, just nine minutes later Calvert-Lewin equalized the result, igniting the fans at Goodison. The hosts didn’t allow for the Citizens to bounce back quickly, and the result at the halftime was 1-1.

Early on in the second half, Everton threatened on several occasions, from which a few were very dangerous for Ederson. But, all that was forgotten after Riyad Mahrez’s fantastic free-kick, which brought the win to Guardiola’s side.
From that moment on, the Toffees tried to respond, but the only thing they provoked was another goal in their net. It was Raheem Sterling in the 84th minute who beat Everton’s defense, for his 100th Premiership goal.
“It was a real good moment (to score 100th club goal),” Sterling said to the journalists. “I had a chance earlier on and didn’t know if I was offside or not and dragged it wide. But I knew another chance would come. I never think it isn’t going to be my day. I am always waiting for an opportunity.”
City is now five points behind the leaders Liverpool who defeated Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, 0-1. The sole scorer in this event was Georginio Wijnaldum, who broke the lock of the home team in the 70th minute. To be precise, the goal was more a product of the Blades’ goalkeeper Henderson, whose clumsy reaction allowed for the ball to slip out of his hands and cross the goal line.

The Reds were dominating throughout the entire match, they had superb chances, but simply, Mane, Salah and Firmino couldn’t score. Each of them had at least one golden opportunity for netting, yet they failed to convert it. With this victory, Liverpool kept its perfect score, winning all 7 games since the campaign started. They are on the top position in the standings, and are for now looking very convincing.
Chelsea won its first match at Stamford Bridge since Frank Lampard sat on their bench. The Blues’ victims today were the Seagulls from Brighton. The final result, 2-0 for Lampard’s boys. Though, they had to work a lot in order to reach this win. The result at the halftime was 0-0, and the frustration among both the fans and the players was enormous in those moments.
“My message to the players was not to get despondent, not to feel flat, not to get sloppy. It was to keep playing at pace,” Lampard explained what the atmosphere in the locker room was. “Because of not winning here, you fear the worst. But there was a different feel today. When the ball moved quickly, it looked good.”
