Newcastle and Leeds feature in one of the EPL’s round 18 games. This one takes place at St. James’ Park, home of the Magpies, who are very good this season, sitting near the very top of the standings. Even though many expected to see a bunch of megastars landing this summer in north of England, that didn’t happen. Though, Eddie Howe’s unit has been one of the best in the country. As for Leeds, they keep on having problems with injured players, not having the slightest amount of luck in that area, which later reflects in results.
Preview
Newcastle (-205) was victorious in Leicester, ripping apart the Foxes 0-3. The Magpies opened the game well, with two quick goals in the opening minutes, and later on, there was no way for the hosts to recover and come back. Meanwhile, Howe’s boys have been confident and focused, routinely doing their part of the job.
For the moment, Newcastle is third in the league, having 33 points in 16 games, seven fewer than Arsenal, and two than Man City, with a game more compared to these two teams. Along with the Gunners, the Magpies have the fewest number of defeats, only one.
Their form is impeccable, with 10 consecutive victories and 15 defeatless games. Over the past seven events at St. James’ Park, Newcastle allowed just two goals, and overall, the defense is the best part of the unit.
Leeds United (+645) sits two points above the relegation zone, and has one game in hand compared to all the other rivals, which is currently a very big plus. But the way things develop isn’t favoring the Peacocks, who didn’t play a game in the strongest lineup for more than a year.
On Wednesday night, we saw them resisting Man City for almost the entire half and then collapsing at the finish of the same. After that, there was no coming back, and the Citizens easily solved the situation, winning 1-3 in the end.
The Peacocks played eight games on the road this year, winning only one, at Anfield against Liverpool, 1-2 in late October. In the other seven, we saw them losing on six occasions and having one draw, not being able to keep a single clean sheet.
Latest News
Dummett, Krafth, Shelvey, and Isak are all injured and won’t play for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Bamford, Klich, and Summerville are all questionable for the Peacocks. Dallas, Gray, and Sinisterra won’t play, for sure. All three guys are regular lineup players.
Head to Head
These two units played twice last season, and the games weren’t particularly interesting. The first at St. James’ Park finished 1-1, while the second at Elland saw Newcastle’s minimal win, 0-1.
Prediction
Newcastle is in one hell of a shape. They are playing very tough and very disciplined football, creating problems for much more expensive teams. They should win this event, and we also believe that the Magpies have the quality to beat Leeds by at least two goal margins. The odds on that will be between +100 and +110, and we highly recommend taking them.
Pick: Newcastle -1.5 +100
