Chelsea and Liverpool meet on Tuesday night in a mid-week round of the English Premier League championship. Both teams are coming following respective losses last weekend, Chelsea at home and Liverpool on the road against Manchester City. While the Reds hope to reach some European competition, the hosts are out of all those talks. Graham Potter’s crew is still in the UEFA Champions League, and it seems that the Blues’ entire focus is solely on quarterfinal matches against Real. This Premiership campaign is just a bad episode that needs to be forgotten as soon as possible.
Preview
Chelsea (+160) was outplayed by Aston Villa at Stamford on Saturday afternoon. The final result was 0-2, and this was the second straight event in which the Blues hadn’t won and conceded at least twice.
Currently, Chelsea is 11th in the standings, with ten wins and losses each and eight draws. The Blues have a negative goal difference, as they scored 29 times while conceding once more. In general, this was a poor, poor season for Chelsea, who lost its owner, suffered unfair treatment from the government, and in the end, switched head coaches.
When looking at the previous nine contests at Stamford, it is noticeable that eight ended with just one side netting. Also, the same number of events saw under 2.5 goals.
Liverpool (+160) suffered a heavy beating at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City trashed the Reds 4-1. L’Pool took the lead through Salah, but theirthe celebration didn’t last for long because City took over the initiative and easily flipped the result.
Once again, Jurgen Klopp’s crew lost focus during the match once being in a solid position. This has nothing to do with their preparations or physical condition but with their mental state.
Liverpool now has three losses on the road in a row, and in three of the previous four away events, this unit failed to score, which is an alarming fact for the Reds.
Latest News
Azpilicueta, Broja, and Silva are all out due to various injuries. Aubameyang, Fofana, Mendy, and Sterling are all questionable.
On the other side, Bajcetic, Keita, Ramsay and Thiago won’t play due to injuries, and it seems that Luis Diaz won’t appear too.
Head to Head Games
The first meeting of the year was in late January, with the Reds hosting Chelsea and the game ending without goals. Liverpool met Chelsea in both FA and the EFL Cup finals last season, winning on both occasions. Seven of their previous eight contests were with under 2.5 goals. That’s because Tuchel preferred to defend and make games dull.
Prediction
Both teams are in terrible shape, and when it comes to the full-time result, the chances are 50-50. We want to bet on goals here instead of picking the winners. The best solution right now is moderate efficiency, meaning two or three goals, with the odds at +100. Both defenses are terrible, and even though Chelsea prefers to play a bit of defensive-minded football, we should see at least two hits on Tuesday night.
Pick: 2 or 3 goals +100
