Boxing Day matchday in English football is one of the most interesting events during the whole season. Everybody is going to the stadium happy and full of optimism, hoping that their club posts a positive result, and makes some Christmas miracle.
And that is precisely what happened at Kings Power stadium, where miracles often took place three years ago when Leicester City won the title. Now, they reminded their fans of that time, by defeating the reigning champions Manchester City in one very close and interesting contest.
The hosts won with 2-1, restraining City’s attack and extending their crisis. After losing at home to Crystal Palace previous weekend, Guardiola’s boys suffered another huge blow, which might be a decisive one in their quest for the title.
The Citizens struck first with Bernardo Silva scoring the opener. Just five minutes later Albrighton leveled the score, and the ultimate goal came in the 81st minute when Ricardo Pereira smashed the ball into Ederson’s net.

With this loss, City not only fell seven points behind Liveprool, but also handed over the second place in the standings to Tottenham who was superb today.
The Spurs destroyed Bournemouth with 5-0. The 21-year old Kyle Walker-Peters had three assists in the first halftime, indicating that he might be the next sensation from Tottenham’s kitchen. Son scored a brace, Eriksen, Kane, and Lucas one goal each.
Tottenham jumped over City as they now have 45 points, one more than the champions.

One other club from Manchester had more luck today. United completely revived their game after firing Jose Mourinho. With today’s win over Huddersfield, 3-1, they scored 8 goals in just four days span. Now, that is something which hasn’t been seen that often when Portuguese manager led this team.
The arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer really changed the whole atmosphere at Old Trafford, and United does look different. They still have ups and downs in their performance, but it is far better than under Mourinho. The scorers for the Red Devils were Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba twice.
Liverpool continued to harass their rivals. The latest victim of Reds’ rampage has been Newcastle who went home with four goals in their net. Dejan Lovren, Mo Salah, and Xherdan Shaquiri with two goals welcomed Rafa Benitez to his former stadium.

With 51 points, Jurgen Klopp’s crew is confidently holding the top spot in the Premiership, without a single loss since the season started. It appears that the Reds concentrated all of their power on winning the domestic title, as their results here and in the Champions League, don’t have much in common.
In other matches, Fulham and Wolves played 1-1 in today’s opener. Aleksandar Mitrovic had several big chances to snap Fulham’s bad run, but the Serb just couldn’t net.
Everton instantly recovered from a defeat against Tottenham on Sunday and smashed Burnley at its Turf Moore with 1-5. For the first time, this season the Toffees played as they should always do.
Arsenal failed to win in Brighton, as the Seagulls managed to snap one point from the guests from London, 1-1. Despite having the initiative and the lead at one point, the Gunners had to settle with a draw.
Chelsea, on the other hand, successfully overcame Watford on the road, 1-2, and they are now back in top 4, holding the last position which leads to the Champions League. With Eden Hazard in the mood, the Blues have a chance to stay here and possibly do something bigger.
