Manchester City won its fourth English Premier League title today, after defeating Brighton and Hove Albion in the last round of the season. The guests from Etihad Stadium triumphed with 4-1, and kept their advantage over Liverpool, who was also successful versus Wolverhampton.
“It was the toughest title I have won in my career by far,” said Pep Guardiola after the match.
And the Spanish manager won quite a lot throughout his career. Guardiola praised their biggest rivals, Liverpool. The Spaniard stated that Jurgen Klopp’s boys pushed Sky-Blues over the edge, forcing them to give everything they have in order to lift this trophy.
“We have to say congratulations to Liverpool – and thank you so much, because they pushed us and made us increase our standard,” Pep stated.
" It's amazing, the best managers are here, and incredible players, and the rivalry we have faced this season gives more credit to what we have done."

Though, it wasn’t without thrill as many would think after seeing the result. The Seagulls were the ones who drew the first blood, scoring after 27 minutes of play.
At that moment, Liverpool was already leading at home against the Wolves, and the visiting fans at Amex Stadium were a little bit concerned. But only for one minute, because Sergio Aguero netted instantly on the other side.
Everything was much easier when Aymeric Laporte netted a header in the 38th minute and brought back City on top of the standings. From that second, Citizens were dominating the pitch, all the way until the end.
Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundonan finished the Seagulls and made this match even more beautiful for them and their fans.
Citizens won the last 14 games of the Premiership, and made a furious push in the end, using Liverpool’s slips in the best possible way. Reds were seven points ahead at the start of the spring, but along the way, they played several draws which were lethal for their title ambitions. Although with 97 points, Liverpool is the best ever runner-up in the history of the Premiership.
With this quantity of points, the Reds would have easily won 90% of the championships played so far.
It is because of that, that Klopp has no regrets on the way his players behaved during the campaign.
“We couldn’t really have done more. When your opponent is City, it’s difficult. They couldn’t get rid of us and we couldn’t get rid of them.”
"What a really good season. An unbelievable season."

The German manager is certain that his team is on the right path, and that at some point there will reach their goal, which is winning the Premier League. The drought in Liverpool lasts for almost three decades now.
Vincent Kompany also admitted that this trophy is by far the dearest to him, because of all the intensity and drama which surrounded City’s path towards it. He too mentioned Liverpool, saying that even if Reds won this title, it wouldn’t be unfair.
“It was the hardest and most satisfying Premier League ever,” four-time champ said. “Liverpool were exceptional this year. I don’t mean to rub it in, it is what it is, and they didn’t deserve to be a loser today.”
Kompany won all four titles with the Citizens and is probably the biggest legend of the club. He came to Manchester when they made their first super-team and stayed until today. Many would say that his fantastic rocket against Leicester was, in fact, the decisive goal of the season. In the moments when Foxes defended very well, the strong center-back broke their lock for a narrow 1-0 victory.
City now has four titles and is third-best in the history of the league. Manchester United is still untouchable with 13, and Chelsea has 5. But when looking only this decade, the Sky-Blues are the most successful.
The next target for Guardiola and his crew will be the Champions League title, but also, they want to win three Premierships in a row and enter history.
He already knows that it would be tough, but already indicates a tough fight.
“It will be tougher next season. But we’ll be stronger too.”
We, the fans, will now have to wait for some time. The offseason will be filled with huge and massive transfers which might shift the balance of power, meaning that there will be big news coming from overseas.
