Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers have defeated the Denver Broncos today, keeping their record perfect after initial three games of the season. The Packs were better than their rivals at the Lambeau Field, posting a 27-16 victory.
And we have to say, that slowly, the Green Bay’s defense is taking all the spotlight from Aaron Rodgers and his magic. It was a while since this franchise had such a fierce and relentless D like in these three games. They forced three turnovers, which is the second time this season. Just to compare how big of an improvement that is, the Packs had two games with 3+ TOs throughout the entire last year.
Now, their kids whom this management put together at this and the previous draft, are eager to set new standards when it comes to their part of the job. Two of today’s three TDs Green Bay had been a direct product of the defense. Preston Smith sacked Joe Flacco and forced a fumble which he picked up, allowing Rodgers and the offense to start the attack five yards away from the endzone.
The second one was when Jaire Alexander forced and recovered a fumble with 13:44 left in the third. Again Rodgers had no troubles in using this gift.
Green Bay’s defensive coordinator Mike Pettine was thrilled with the way his young crew played today, saying that all the hard work is finally paying off.
“That’s something we made an investment in a lot of different ways, and it’s something we stress every day. And we have gotten the results both in practice and in the preseason games, and we’re hopeful that’s going to carry over because we think we’ve developed really good habits,” Pettine explained to the journalists.
The home team created a difference in the first and the last period, which they’ve won with a combined result of 10-0. It was again the defense who stepped up when it mattered the most, denying all the Broncos attacks in the finals few minutes. Not only did they forced punts, or stopped fourth down, but all the attacks of the guests were lasting too long, and that hurt their chances of coming back. It seems that the Packers forced the guests to rely upon running, with all the coverages of the wide receiver.

Pettine spoke about that following the game and had an interesting story about today’s tactics.
“A wise coach told me a long time ago you can fly to Miami a lot faster than you can walk there. You’re going to get beat through the air. That’s the bottom line,” the 63-year old said.
This is the first time since 1989 that the Broncos open the season with 0-3.
Joe Flacco was 20 of 29 for 213 yards, but without a touchdown pass, and with one interception. The former Ravens’ QB suffered six sacks, losing 52 yards. He had one hell of a beating in Wisconsin, the one which will be remembered for a long time. Phillip Lindsay had 130 yards from scrimmage, 81 on the ground in 21 carries and 49 through the air in 4 receptions. Royce Freeman rushed for 63 yards on 15 occasions.
Among the hosts, Rodgers threw one TD pass and collected 235 yards in 17 completed passes from 29 attempts. Aaron Jones posted two TDs, and had just 19 yards today, but was executed when needed. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Pack’s WR was one yard short of reaching 100, but he displayed a very good performance this Sunday. The 24-year old caught one TD pass.
Preston Smith sacked Flacco three times, while Za’Darius Smith did that twice.
Green Bay hosts the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. The Broncos face the Jaguars on Sunday, at Mile High.
