New England Revolution hosts the LA Galaxy in the last game of this weekend’s MLS program. The two units are on the brink of the playoff zone, currently sitting first under the line, very closely behind the rivals. Three points here are a must in order to stay in the postseason race, and that’s why Sunday’s game is so important. Galaxy is in a bit better situation because they have fewer games played than the direct rivals in the West, but they won’t be counting on that to help them.
Preview
New England Revolution (+110) is without a win in the past two games, playing 2-2 on the road in Toronto and then losing in Montreal wth 4-0. This mini trip to Canada exposed flaws in the back line, and Bruce Arena has to do something to erase them.
The defense has been the biggest weapon of the Revs, with them posting clean sheets in four consecutive games prior to these two losses. Though, we can’t say that the offensive part of the crew did its part of the job in some of them.
New England has been without a defeat at home in the past 10 games, posting five wins and five draws. They’ve posted four draws in the last six contests at home, which is the main reason for their drop in the standings.
LA Galaxy (+230) saw fireworks in its last three events. All those events ended with at least six goals, on both sides, and the fans had the luck to witness these encounters. At first, the Galaxy lost to SKC on the road, 4-2, then beat Whitecaps at home, 5-2, before playing against the Sounders in LA, 3-3.
All the direct playoff rivals have at least two or three games more than the Galaxy, who has 34 points, two fewer than Timbers and Nashville SC. In fact, with 25 games, they have the fewest in the West.
The thing which isn’t good for the Galaxy are their results on the road, as they have four consecutive losses away from their stadium, in all but one allowing two or more goals. It’s obvious that the defense has been underachieving.
Latest News
Hosts have a lot of problems with injuries as Jackson and Kessler miss this event. Borrero, Bou, Maciel and Vrioni are all questionable.
On the other side only Villafana won’t participate, and all the other players are in good shape, waiting for the game to start.
Head to Head Games
The previous four meetings these games had were friendly. We saw them in February, when Galaxy trashed the rivals, 0-4.
As for the previous competitive game, that took place in 2019, when the Revs triumphed in LA, 1-2.
Prediction
These two sides aren’t shining lately, and the only reason why we give the Revolution unit an edge, in this case, is the home-field advantage. The Galaxy is very bad away from home, so it is logical to bet on the Revs who didn’t lose in the recent 10 games. Odds on this pick are set at +110, and we think that there is a very high value in it.
Pick: Revolution +110
