The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Phoenix Suns in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, winning the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time in 50 years. The final result of the match was 105-98 for the home team, who had astonishing Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Greek international had 50 points, tying the all-time high for a closing NBA Finals game. The other player who managed to do that was Bob Pettit.
Giannis was unstoppable in the second half with 33 buckets, constantly breaking the Suns’ defense and not allowing the guests to breathe. He would end the match with 16 hits from the field in 25 attempts and with a surprising 17-for-19 from the free-throw line.
“People told me I cannot make free throws,” Antetokounmpo said. “I made my free throws tonight, and I’m a freaking champion.

Apart from scoring 50, he also had 14 boards and five blocked shots, which significantly impacted the defensive side of the court. Once again, Giannis proved to be the best when needed the most. That is why he unanimously won the NBA Finals MVP award, which was presented to him following the match.
The Bucks started the match furiously, and they reached a 29-16 lead at the end of the opening 12 minutes. However, Phoenix’s answer was even stronger, as Monty Williams’ side outscored the hosts 31-13 in the second period, taking the initiative back to their side.
The two teams traded blows until the end of the third and the start of the fourth period, when Giannis took over. The two-time NBA MVP scored 33 points in the second half and was unstoppable regardless of the player who was guarding him.
Milwaukee successfully broke the Suns’ resistance in the end, and won the first title since 1971. The Bucks had Kareem and Oscar Robertson back then, once they defeated the Baltimore Bullets in the finals.
Khris Middleton had 17 points with five boards and assists, and four steals. Jrue Holiday was all-around as usual with 12 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds, plus four steals, while Brook Lopez scored 10 points.
Bobby Portis was excellent off the bench with 16 buckets in 23 minutes.
On the other side, Chris Paul had a team-high 26 points and five assists. CP3 made 11 of his 19 shots from the field.
Devin Booker failed to show up, having just 19 points, 8-for-22 from the field, with all seven three-pointers missed. D-Book opened the series well, but somewhere along the road, he lost the mojo.
Jae Crowder scored 15 points, Cameron Payne 10, and Deandre Ayton 12, not being a factor in tonight’s match at all.
“There’s just a pain that goes with your season being over,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “But I’ve never dealt with this, and so I’m grateful, like I said, but I know this is going to hurt for a while.”
The reporters wanted to know whether Chris Paul would retire following this loss, but the veteran playmaker had a negative answer on that question.
“I ain’t retiring, if that’s what you’re asking. That’s out. So, back to work,” Paul explained.
He will probably exercise his player option for the 2022/23 season, which is $44.2 million.
This match puts an end to this NBA campaign. The next one is supposed to start on time and without any adjustments, meaning mid-October. According to the latest odds from the bookmakers, the Brooklyn Nets are the top favorites to win the Larry O’Brien trophy.
