Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel amazed the world with their performances in today’s German Grand Prix. These guys took the top two places in a race which will be remembered for a long time.
Verstappen won the most exciting Formula 1 event in the past few years. The young Dutchman secured the first place at the Hockenheimring following a wild show, during which he kept the composure in the crucial moments.
Meanwhile, Vettel, who started the weekend superbly, then suffered a catastrophe during the qualifiers came all the way up to the second place. He started from the 20th place because of the vehicle’s failure before the qualifiers. The German couldn’t even compete back on Saturday and had to start from the last row.

But that didn’t prevent the four-time champ from driving one of the best races in the previous few months. He had a massive motive due to all the fans who came to see him today. Vettel had an excellent tempo, and both he and Charles Leclerc were out of reach for Mercedes during all training sessions. Yet, the problems with the vehicle frustrated the German ace, forcing him to start from the bottom. That didn’t crush his morale but injected an additional dose of adrenaline.
“I’m just happy. I think before the last safety car, I realized I was quite a bit faster, and I had some good moves on the back straight. It was about getting the next car, and the next car, and the next car,” Ferrari’s star explained.

Verstappen started from the second place, behind Lewis Hamilton, and was always near the top. That consistency provided him with an opportunity to use all the mistakes of his rivals and post the 7th career victory. And when mentioning mistakes, there were a lot of them today. Hamilton, Leclerc, Bottas, all of them went out of the track, with the current champ being the only one of them who finished the race. Verstappen had one 360-spin, but he managed to stay focused and avoid the worst.
“I made a nice 360, I enjoyed that. It was about trying to not make too many mistakes,” the winner said. “You learn over the years I’m very happy with the result. It was really tricky to make the right calls. To come out on top, it was all about not making mistakes. It’s amazing to win here.”
Hamilton had a five-second penalty due to his illegal entrance into the pit-lane and was on the verge of receiving another one. In the end, he finished 11th without reaching a single point. His teammate Valtteri Bottas was close to another podium, but with eight laps to go, he lost the control of the vehicle and ended his race in the worst possible way.

Third-placed in today’s entertaining race was Daniil Kvyat. There is no doubt that the Russian will remember this weekend forever. The night before the race he became a father, and that was accompanied with a podium following today’s event. Things simply can’t be any better for this gentleman.
“It’s amazing to be back on the podium. And to bring one back for the team after so many years is special,” he said while receiving congratulations.
Even though he didn’t take a single point, Hamilton still tops the standings. The Brit has 225 points, while his teammate Bottas has 184. Verstappen came closer and now has 162, while Vettel sits fourth with exactly 84 points fewer than Hamilton – 141.
The next race is at the Hungaroring on August 4.
