For the sixth time in their long and wealthy history, Liverpool became the champions of the European continent. In tonight’s showdown against the Tottenham Hotspurs, the Reds won with 2-0 and finally reached one European trophy after three straight losses in finals. They were defeated twice in the Champions League against AC Milan and Real Madrid and Europa League against Sevilla two years ago.
“I am so happy for the boys all these people, and my family. They suffer for me, they deserve it more than anybody,” stated Jurgen Klopp the manager of the new European champions.
This match was very important for him too, because he also had several lost finals in a row. Plus, he didn’t win a single trophy since landed at Anfield. Klopp came to Liverpool as the savior, but until this point, he was always one step short when talking about some notable milestones.

Last night, at the press conference, the German spoke about the fact that he didn’t triumph in a single final match for a long time. Trophies passed by him, despite excellent performances his teams posted. After this event, the situation is much different.
“In this moment I only feel relief,” Klopp spoke to the reporters. “I’m very, very happy for all our players, all our fans … the main thing I feel is a relief.”
Liverpool was better in this contest. The Reds didn’t dominate the pitch, but they completely restrained the Spurs’ attack. Harry Kane, Son, Dele Alli, Eriksen, all those guys were helpless upfront, except in the final 15 minutes.
Liverpool shocked Tottenham after some 30 seconds, when Sissoko handballed in the box, and forced the referee Skomina to award a penalty to the Reds. Mohamed Salah didn’t have any problems of converting it and last year’s runners-up were ahead 1-0, one minute into the match.
Klopp gets the bumps! 🙌

After that came a period in which there wasn’t anything noticeable on the court of Wanda Metropolitan stadium. One girl invaded the pitch half naked, and that was the only interesting thing which took place until the end of the first half.
The second part of the event started in the same manner, with Tottenham struggling to find a way to penetrate Liverpool’s defense. But as time passed, Mauricio Pochettino’s guys did create a couple of chances which could have changed the result. Luckily for the Reds, Alisson was superb, and the Brazilian goalkeeper saved a couple solid attempts which were promising for the Spurs.
And when the tension was at the peak, another shock for Tottenham. Following one corner, Divock Origi got the ball, and from some 14 yards hit the far lower angle of Lloris’ goal, causing an eruption of joy of Liverpool’s fans and the crew.
Pochettino congratulated the rivals at the press conference, saying that they deserved to win. Spurs’ manager added that his team could play better but that he is proud of them anyway.
“We’re all very disappointed, but I feel so proud of my players,” Poch told the media. “I want to congratulate Liverpool, Klopp, the players, the club and the fans because they’ve had an amazing season.”
Liverpool added their 6th European champions title and are now third on the all-time list behind Real Madrid who has 13 and AC Milan with 7.
It is a superb closure of the season which could have ended as one of the worst in club’s history if they lost this match. After having everything in their hands in the Premier League, and dropping the title, failing to reach the Champions League would be a massive blow. That would probably result in Klopp’s departure as some suggested prior to this final.
However, UCL trophy presents a major boost for all the Reds’ fans and the players, and motivation to continue with hard work.
As for Tottenham, if they don’t bring some high-quality players. Pochettino’s crew will stay at this level, which isn’t capable of delivering any noticeable results or trophies. Their board will have to invest some money in roster to change that.
