Both Liverpool and Manchester United suffered historic embarrassments, following the losses they experienced earlier today.
The reigning champions Liverpool were smashed in Birmingham were Aston Villa packed seven goals in their net. The final result was 7-2 for the hosts, who inflicted one of the biggest losses to the Reds in their Premiership history, and something nobody expected.
Liverpool was blown into pieces. In short, that is the most precise description of this match. The Villains used every chance they got to hit the Reds, and to confirm that they need to be taken into consideration each time someone mentions the top six positions in the standings.
The last time Liverpool allowed seven goals was in 1963, and that was against Tottenham. Ollie Watkins delivered a hat-trick, becoming only the tenth player ever to score three goals against the biggest English club. He posted all of his hits in the first half, with John McGinn adding one more before the break.
“When the first one went in a pinched myself a little bit. I’m just delighted I could contribute and we won. Unbelievable,” said Watkins who was in delirium when the game ended.
On the other side, Mo Salah was the one who managed to hit the back of the net for the guests. The Egyptian scored both goals with the latter coming in the second half.
Meanwhile, Ross Barkley, who joined Villa from Chelsea, recently opened the show in the second 45 minutes, and Jack Grealish, who is the heart of the team from Birmingham, closed the match with a brace, completing one of the most memorable days in the Premier League history.
Jose Mourinho had a lot of reasons to be happy after the game with his former team today. Tottenham beat Manchester United at Old Trafford with 1-6, humiliating the big rival and handing them the biggest loss in their EPL history.
The Spurs didn’t want to stop even though many expected to see them doing that following the halftime, which saw them having a 1-4 lead. The way this one started, nobody believed that the game would end in this way.
United got the penalty in the first minute, with Bruno Fernandes converting the same. But shortly after, Tottenham hit back, scoring twice in three minutes, through Ndombele and Son, in the fourth and seventh minute.
But the turning point of the game was something else. Anthony Martial lost his temper in the 28th minute after being provoked by Erik Lamela. The French international was sent off due to the slapping of the opponent, and that changed the balance on the field.
Until the pause, Tottenham added two more goals, one by Son and the other from Harry Kane. The Red Devils on the other side, couldn’t do anything about it.
“It is the worst day of my career as Manchester United manager and the worst day for all of them as United players [but] it is not the worst day in Manchester United history, we have bounced back before,” said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the game.
Tottenham wouldn’t stop in the second part of the game, with Serge Aurier and Kane delivering both one more hit apiece.
Jose Mourinho appeared to have the last laugh following the dishonorable sacking in Manchester. Still, the Portuguese didn’t want to exult.
“Historical victory but in the end three points and three very important points because we lost five points at home.”
All the soccer fans know that this is not an ordinary win, and that is for sure.
