Lionel Messi was officially introduced as the new Inter Miami player at the overcrowded DRV PNK Stadium this Sunday night. One of the greatest ever soccer players is not a part of Inter’s locker room, and no doubt not only the franchise from Miami but the entire MLS will benefit enormously.
“I am very happy to have chosen to come to this city with my family, to have chosen this project and I have no doubt that we are going to enjoy it very much,” Messi said.
After his pale stint in PSG, where he couldn’t create a proper chemistry with Neymar and Mbappe, Messi decided to leave the French capital. The team from Parc des Princes didn’t succeed in winning the Champions League, often failing big in the most prominent European competition.

After the season ended, Messi didn’t wait for too long but picked Inter to continue his magnificent career. The news about his transfer overseas broke out almost a month ago, but he was only now introduced. It appears that David Beckham and the Miami front office wanted to give the player more time to rest and recharge his batteries following a very exhausting season, in which he and Argentina won the World Cup in Qatar.
With such an achievement, Messi gained an edge over Cristiano Ronaldo, his biggest rival.
An impressive show was thrown at the stadium in Miami, where we saw superstars and celebrities like Tom Brady, Steph Curry, DJ Khaled, etc. David Beckham awaited Messi handing him the No.10 jersey.
“Ten years ago, I started my journey to build a new MLS team,” Beckham said. “I said then, I dreamt of bringing the best players in the world to South Florida and to the great city to Miami.”
Beckham was the first European superstar to come to play in the USA, when he joined LA Galaxy back in 2007 and stayed there until 2012. His arrival in the MLS opened the door for other players, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and others. Now, he again writes history, only as the co-owner of one MLS team.
Inter Miami’s season so far has been terrible, and the team is sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and the MLS. After 22 events, the team from Florida managed to collect just 18 points. They currently didn’t win in eleven consecutive games but are still in the mix for winning a trophy. Inter is still active in the MLS Cup, which gives fans hope that this year might be successful after all.

We need to mention that one more European superstar has signed for Inter, and he, too, was revealed yesterday. Messi’s teammate from Barcelona, Sergio Busquets, a member of Barca’s and Spain’s golden generations, also joined the franchise from Miami. The 35-year-old veteran has every bit trophy in his collection, including the World Cup, EURO, Champions League, etc.
He was the one who did all the dirty work in the lineup, playing as a defensive midfielder, and his experience will be of a lot of help to Messi and his new teammates. Busquets signed a deal until the end of 2025, and the details regarding the finances haven’t been revealed.
Inter Miami continues its MLS campaign with a home game against Charlotte on August 20. Messi should debut in four days against Cruz Azul.
