In one eight days time, the whole world will stop. Super Bowl LIII will start, and the Rams and the Patriots will decide who is the best team in the National Football League.
The tension is already in the air with both teams preparing for the upcoming spectacle, being under the constant watch of the media.
Yesterday the Patriots had their media session, and Julian Edelman stood in front of the journalists. This will be the fourth Super Bowl appearance for the 32-year old wide receiver and he already knows the protocol in these cases.
It would have been five of them, but last year he couldn’t help his teammate because of his ACL injury.
According to his words, the feeling when you watch your team in the Super Bowl is an odd one, with many mixed emotions. On one side you are happy for your team, but on the other, you are sad because you are not a part of it.
“You’ve got mixed emotions. You’re happy your teammates are there….. but you also have kind of a hurt feeling because you’re not playing.” Edelman said.
This year he is fired-up as never before, and ready to roll next Sunday. The stats from the first two games of the playoffs are confirming that claim – 16 catches for 247 yards. If we say that throughout the season, Edelman had 850 yards in 12 contests, you will have a clear picture what are we trying to say.

When asked how does he feel about the Super Bowl, the player’s answer was straightforward.
“It means the world,” he said. “This is what you play the game for and it’s been a crazy year for me, two years. ”
The guy with the second-most receptions in the postseason history, spoke about his injury, the fact that he became a father, and the process of rehabilitation, saying that he faced many adversities, and managed to leave them behind.
But the central part of the press conference was dedicated to his ties with Sean McVay, Rams’ coach who has a similar background as Edelman.
The two guys met on the field some 11 and a half years ago. Edelman’s Kent State faced McVay’s Miami Ohio. Though you might be surprised, Edelman was a quarterback for Kent State, while on the other side, Rams’ today’s coach had been a receiver for his team.
Miami won, despite Edelman’s solid game, and that is how McVay met Pats’ wide receiver. Meanwhile Edelman didn’t know until recently about their encounter.
He has a very high opinion about the former rival, who became the youngest coach in the history of the NFL to reach the Super Bowl. And he wasn’t hesitant to express it publicly.
“It’s very remarkable. I mean, he’s a stud. He’s my age and he’s leading an organization to a Super Bowl,” the two-time Super Bowl champ said, adding that he likes that because of McVay’s college background. “I love seeing it. He’s a MAC guy.”

There was one interesting question of one of the reporters, who mentioned the fact that Tom Brady played against the Rams and veteran Kurt Warner, 17 years ago, and despite being a complete underdog, produced a huge upset. He wanted to know what is Edelman’s view on that and does he see any similarities between that situation, and the current one where Jared Goff tries to dethrone Brady.
Pats wide receiver didn’t have a straight answer.
Whether is that because of superstition or some other reason, one of the favorite targets of Tom Brady avoided speaking about this fun fact.
Did the time come for the Rams to close the circle and got even with the Pats? Is that what might scare Edelman?
We’ll see next Sunday.
