Jon Jones claims that he is ready to fight Stipe Miocic after the UFC 247. The current light heavyweight champion had a chat earlier today with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani and revealed his intentions if everything goes well in the upcoming event.
Jones, arguably the best fighter of today, shook the MMA world with this announcement, as it would definitely be the biggest UFC fight ever.
“I feel like I really want to fight [heavyweight champion] Stipe Miocic. I feel like I could beat him,” Jones said during Helwani’s interview.

The controversial American who didn’t leave anyone indifferent throughout his career isn’t the kind of guy who speaks empty stories and doesn’t back up his words. It is why the fans all around the world felt excited, hoping that they might see another blockbusting spectacle in the top UFC division.
After watching Daniel Cormier fighting Stipe in their recent two fights, the Bones, as the fans call him, believes that he has all the necessary resources to take down the American with the Croatian origins.
“I feel like I could totally beat him, just based on his performances with DC, our speed differences, my fight IQ, my versatility, my faith and confidence,” JJ explained his point of view to Helwani.
Cormier defeated Miocic in their first fight at the UFC 226, stripping Stipe of his heavyweight title earned against Fabricio Werdum. However, he regained his throne at the UFC 241, knocking out DC.
Now, Jones stated that he analysed how Stipe fought in those two bouts, and reached several conclusions. He also added that the difference in weight wouldn’t be a problem for him, although Miocic weighs 25 pounds more.
“I don’t think I would need a tuneup,” Jones said. “I’m pretty tuned up. I’m pretty in tune. I feel great, I feel strong already.”
This would no doubt be a massive clash, an epic one, between the two guys who are considered to be among the greatest ever. The UFC and Dana White might be tempted to change their original plans, which included the third part of the Miocic vs. Cormier saga. The president of the organization was already lobbying for this match.

Yet, after these statements, the call of the money might become even stronger, and force everyone to change their mind.
Jones, on the other side, has one challenger who is eager to meet and fight him – Israel Adesanya. The young superstar recently fired several pretty cheeky statements, saying that he intends to go into a higher division, all in the purpose of preparing for his potential fight with Jones.
The middleweight champion from New Zealand is the fastest rising superstar in the UFC, and his appetites are huge. But for now, the Bones is not interested in fighting this guy. Furthermore, he doesn’t want to speak about him.
“I’m so far ahead of this kid,” Jones said. “So the fact that I am even talking about him right now, I’m just going to stop.”
In the meantime, UFC 247 is approaching, and all these talks could disappear if Jones doesn’t defeat Reyes. Even though the prospects aren’t favoring that outcome, it is still possible. We’ve seen that a million times in this sport.
One wild punch, one moment of losing your focus or confidence, all this can lead up to a sensational outcome.
