Jimmy Garoppolo is the new starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders. With this action, the team from Nevada found a replacement for Derek Carr, who was released before moving to New Orleans Saints.
Various sources have reported that the veteran quarterback intends to sign with the Raiders. The deal will last three years and is worth $67.5 million, of which $34 million are guaranteed.
Garoppolo was bound to leave the 49ers, and many believed it would happen much earlier. Though, the problems with injuries forced San Francisco to lean on the veteran throughout most of the previous year before he eventually got injured in the late phase of the campaign.

During the 2022 season, Garoppolo started in 11 games, having 2,437 passing yards for 16 touchdowns and four interceptions, the second-best in the league. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury that would remove him from the team once the 49ers began playing pretty well, so Jimmy G had to watch Brock Purdy leading his offense in the playoffs.
Kyle Shanahan decided to throw in younger quarterbacks, so Garoppolo’s departure from California is no surprise. Eventually, waiting for one more year before leaving turned out to be even better for Jimmy G, who will be the starter in Las Vegas.
A big plus for Garoppolo in this deal is that the Raiders’ head coach, Josh McDaniels, led the Patriots’ offense when the quarterback played for New England. Therefore, the two know one another very well.
Following his exit from Foxborough, Garopppolo signed with the 49ers a five-year $137.5 million contract, which made him the highest-paid NFL player at the time. Though, in those five years, he couldn’t lead the Niners to the Super Bowl trophy. The franchise from San Francisco was among the best in the league and was a powerhouse in the NFC, winning the conference back in 2019 and reaching the NFC Championship Game in the previous two seasons. However, a ring didn’t land at Levi’s Stadium.
In 63 starts for the Niners, he posted 13,599 yards for 82 TDs and 42 picks and has a record of 44 victories and 19 losses, including playoffs. Garoppolo had major problems with injuries in San Francisco, missing 30 games during the stint and also earning a red-flag reputation.

Per various media, the guy who was supposed to get the starting job following Carr’s release, Jarrett Stidham, will move to Denver Broncos, where a two-year contract awaits him. It seems that the Broncos aren’t too happy with Russell Wilson, who could even be traded during the season if things don’t start well for the franchise from the Mile High. In that case, Stidham would be a perfect interim solution, and the player, too, sees his opportunity in Denver.
Stidham was also a part of the New England Patriots locker room once. He had eight starts during the 2019 and 2020 years, with 270 passing yards for two touchdowns and four picks. In one year with the Raiders, Stidham appeared five times, having 656 passing yards for four scores and three picks while rushing for 84 yards as well. That was enough for the Broncos to snatch him.
