It seems that Jameis Winston could become the newest member of the New Orleans Saints.
One of the most talented, but also controversial quarterbacks in the league and the franchise from New Orleans are reportedly finalizing a deal which should see him landing in the Big Easy for the upcoming season.
“Former Bucs’ Jameis Winston and the Saints have been discussing a deal that @CharlesRobinson reports is being finalized. Winston and the Saints now look close to being a reality,” Adam Schefter wrote on his Twitter account.

This would be one of the biggest moves in the current free agency. The Saints would have a quality backup for Drew Brees, who decided to come back for two more years. Although being great, Brees is a veteran whose physicalities aren’t at the top level anymore. We already saw him picking up an injury during the previous campaign, separating him from the field for five games.
Back then, Teddy Bridgewater jumped in to replace him, and did it perfectly, but during this offseason, TB left the team and signed with the Carolina Panthers.
The Saints who are one of the top candidates for the Super Bowl title, want to have a proper backup for Brees, and the guy who is able to keep them rolling at the high level if their starting QB isn’t on the field.
“By doing a 1-year deal with the Saints, Jameis Winston would get to learn and be around Sean Payton, Drew Brees and others. He would fill the role that Teddy Bridgewater did in last season before he left for Carolina. With no other staring jobs, it would be an ideal landing spot,” Schefter added.
There is one more catch in this story. The Saints only have Taysom Hill as Brees’ possible successor, and many are doubting his capabilities, as the 29-year old doesn’t have the routine for being a consistent passer in the league. Hill is currently a versatile player who fills in several positions in the Saints’ team, but isn’t planned for a long-term QB solution.
On the other side, the former No.1 pick could be the solution for New Orleans’ future, and this one-year deal would be some sort of a test.
Winston was arguable the biggest talent at the 2015 NFL Draft, which is why the Buccaneers picked him first. He came out of Florida State as the Heisman Trophy winner and the AP Player of the Year, becoming the second freshman to win the award. After coming to the league, he won the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year and was a Pro Bowler, indicating that he might become one of the elite passers in the NFL. However, that didn’t happen for numerous reasons, and one of them is his poor discipline and lack of mental strength.
During the previous season, Winston became the league’s passing leader with 5,109 yards and 33 TDs, but the league-highest 30 interceptions. Since he came to the NFL, Winston had 111 turnovers, which is the most for a QB.
Him going to NE, and learning from Payton and Brees would be an awesome opportunity to upgrade his massive talent, and improve all the weak spots which prevented him from becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the game. Even though he had a colossal number of flaws, Winston would still manage to provide excellent numbers and be a regular starter.
If everything goes well, one day, he would be the No.1 again, only this time at a much better team, the one who could be attacking the ring.
