Connor McGregor shocked the public late last night. Like so many times in his career, one of the most famous athletes in the world dropped a bomb which just a few expected.
He wrote on his Twitter account that he retires from MMA.
“Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today,” McGregor stated.
What makes the entire situation more confusing is the fact that the Irishman didn’t mention anything a few hours earlier while participating in “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.

Furthermore, he was talking about the fact that he might come back in the octagon in a few months time.
According to his words, he and UFC were negotiating about the potential fight involving him in July this year. The fighter stated that he is still ready for challenges and that he feels in shape.
“We’re in talks for July,” McGregor said in his Tonight Show appearance. “We’ll see what happens…But like I said, to my fans, I am in shape and I am ready.”
But after this sentence, McGregor did mention the fact that he isn’t fighting for the money anymore, and that he doesn’t have to enter the ring at any cost. His family has enough wealth for the rest of their life, and the only thing which motivates him to fight is his desire.
“I don’t necessarily need to fight. I am set for life. My family is set for life. We are good, but I am eager to fight.”
UFC president, Dana White, was also surprised with this news, but he said that McGregor’s decision has sense. White spoke for ESPN and stated that the fighter has several business ventures going on, among which his whiskey Proper 12 stands out.
“He has the money to retire, and his [Proper 12] whiskey is KILLIN it,” White shared his opinion through a written message. “The whiskey will keep him busy, and I’m sure he has other things he’s working on.”
This move made a lot of reactions throughout the Internet. However, most of the fans are thinking that this is just another move for gaining the publicity. As we all saw in the past, McGregor is one of the best ever when talking about that,
This isn’t the first time that he announces his retirement. Some three years ago, the fighter also used Twitter to reveal the same thing.
And the situation about his negotiations with UFC was the same as the current one. He was in talks with the organization about making a fight at UFC 200, but withdrew from them after his “retirement.” A couple of months earlier he was in the octagon, having a rematch with Nate Diaz, and making one of the most profitable fights in his career.

His money-making abilities are fantastic. McGregor has the charisma along with fighting skills which made him one of the most appealing athletes in the world of sport, and at the moment, he has four out of six most profitable pay per view MMA fights in history.
The fans are expecting to see McGregor once again in the ring, and the only question for the majority of them is who will be the opponent.
Is there going to be a second clash between him and Khabib Nurmagomedov? Now that would be a story.
After the first one in October last year, there is no doubt that the hype around this one would be something the sports have rarely seen.
The pre and post-match incidents surrounding the first fight between the two created a lot of bad blood, and pay per view profits for the second encounter might be something which would surpass everything seen before.
In some couple of months from now, we will see if McGregor’s second retirement was true or not.
