One of the best running backs in this millennium, Frank Gore is about to become a member of the New York Jets.
Adam Schefter reported earlier today that Gore and the Jets are signing a one-year deal. Shefter shared the news on his Twitter account.
“Standout veteran RB Frank Gore is signing a 1-year deal with the Jets, @RosenhausSports tells ESPN. Gore will be reunited with his former coach Adam Gase, with whom he spent the 2018 season,” he wrote.
This comes just nine days before his 37th birthday.
Frank Gore will turn 37 years old on May 14. He was a third-round pick in 2005, and his longevity and productivity will land him a spot in Canton. https://t.co/uBIAGOxVfp

Gore played for the Buffalo Bills in 2019, and posted the lowest figures in his career – 599 rushing yards and just 3.6 yards per carry. However, his influence on the team can’t be measured with numbers, as he had a positive impact on the entire locker room, and especially on the rookie Devin Singletary. He and the youngster already trained the year before his jump to the league, and the Singletary’s improvement over those two years was more than visible.
Gore will once again work together with the head coach Adam Gase, with whom he spent one year with the Dolphins in 2018, and one year in San Francisco in 2008. Gase was more than impressed with Gore’s work attitude and his professionalism, and he is hoping that the veteran sets a positive example in the Jets’ locker room.
Gase plans to give Gore the role of the second RB in the team behind Le’Veon Bell. The former Steelers’ star came to New York as one of the best running backs in the league, after sitting out the entire year after declining to play for the franchise from Pittsburgh.
Jets gave him a four-year $52.5 million contract, but so far he didn’t justify that amount. Although being eight in the league in touches, with 311, Bell averaged just 3.2 yards per carry and 789 yards in total. There were some rumors that he might be traded, but that didn’t happen. After his poor productivity during the 2019 campaign, there aren’t teams who are willing to accept his massive contract. Bell’s basic salary is $8.5 million, plus his personality tends to be problematic from time to time.
With Gore, he will have more help, but also a moral support form one of the best ever in his position. Gase also hopes that the newcomer could mentor rookie La’Mical Perine from Flordia, who is a fourth-round selection from this draft.
If by any chance, these two guys manage to learn something positive from Gore, the Jets’ benefits would be colossal. After all, he is a living legend.
Franklin Gore, was drafted as the 65th overall pick at the 2005 NFL draft. He spent four seasons at the University of Miami, playing for the Hurricanes and winning BCS national championship. The san Francisco 49ers took Gore, and he played there for the next 10 seasons, becoming the 49ers leader in rushing yards and rushing TDs. He was a five-time Pro Bowler, and once a second-team All-Pro. After 49ers, he played three years for the Colts, and one for Miami and Buffalo.
The league selected him to an NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, and he is currently the third on the all-time rushing yards list behind Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.
Interestingly, his son Frank Gore Jr. is starting his college career this season. Like father, he is a running back and will play for Southern Mississippi.
