Borussia Dortmund meets Glasgow Rangers tomorrow night in the Europa League playoffs. We hope that two teams with rich and colorful history deliver an interesting match at Signal Iduna Park, with lots of excitement. The Millionaires won’t have Erling Haaland, who is injured, but despite that, we believe that Marco Rose’s unit has enough scoring options upfront. On the other side, the Rangers are solid recently but are inconsistent on the road. That is the main fear of fans who hope to see their favorites get an active result before the rematch.
Preview
Borussia Dortmund (-290) doesn’t have any consistency lately. Over the past five games, they subsequently posted wins and losses, with the note, that Bayer Leverkusen humiliated the Millionaires in their own house two weeks ago, 2-5. That was the first loss for Borussia at home in 2022.
Though, the positive thing when looking at home events, is that when Borussia plays at home, they usually score twice or more. In the past six meetings, the club from Dortmund netted at least twice at Signal Iduna, which has been the constant throughout the entire campaign.
Just to remind that Borussia ended third in the UCL group stage, behind Ajax and Sporting Lisbon, losing at home in the last round, to Ajax, 1-3.
Glasgow Rangers (+700) won the latest three events, all of them without allowing a goal, while on the other side, scoring 10 times. Yet, we need to mention that their rivals were mediocre Scottish teams, such as Heart, Hibernian and Annan.
In the biggest recent challenge, the Gers were wiped out by their big rivals, Celtic, in the Old Firm derby held at Celtic Park, 3-0. It was the first failure for the Rangers after 13 consecutive events without a loss, posting 10 wins and three draws during that period.
The Rangers finished their EL group quest as the second in Group A, behind Lyon, who was almost perfect with 16 points. The Scots collected eight, staying one point ahead of Sparta Prague.
Latest News
The home side will be without Haaland, which is an immeasurable handicap for them. Apart from the youngster, Meunier, Morey Bauza and Wolf won’t play due to injuries, while Can has a red-card suspension.
On the other side, the Gers have their own issues. Ianis Hagi is injured the same as Ryan Jack. The absence of these two will be felt massively on the pitch.
Head to Head Games
The two sides met eight times in total so far, with the record going in Rangers’ favor, three wins, four draws and one defeat. The most recent meeting was in the UEFA Cup round of 16, back in 1999, when Germans advanced after penalties. Both games ended with hosts’ 2-0 triumphs.
Prediction
The hosts are the favorites for us in this game. We do expect to see the Gers focused on defense, possibly parking the bus in front of the goal, but even so, the hosts will win. Furthermore, our pick is that the Millionaires are going to cover -1.5 spread. The odds on that are +105, which is great.
Pick: Borussia -1.5 +105
