The Czech Republic and Denmark are in EURO 2020 quarterfinals after stunning everyone over the past few matches. The Czechs eliminated the Netherlands in the round of 16, surprising most football fans and proving that they simply know how to play against Oranje. Meanwhile, the Danes displayed one hell of a football game versus Wales, scoring four goals and routinely handling the Dragons. For many, this is the most interesting matchup of the round, because there wasn’t too much hype surrounding these teams since the tournament started. This match takes place at the Olympic Stadium in Baku.
Preview
Czech Republic (+360) had lots of success against the Netherlands throughout history, and it seems that such tradition boosted the morale of this generation before their game versus Oranje. They would allow the rival to take the initiative in the first half and create a couple of chances, and that was about it.
Matthijs De Ligt’s mistake, which resulted in a red card, was enough for the Czechs to gain the advantage and end Oranje’s dreams about the European title. Jaroslav Silhavy’s boys prevented the most potent offense in the tournament from shooting on target in this match, which pretty much tells enough about their performance. Patrik Schick was on target again, scoring his fourth goal of the tournament.
By the way, this was the sixth match for the Czechs in the past eight that ended with under 2.5 goals.
Denmark (+110) was fantastic in the last two games. The initial shock following unpleasant scenes with Christian Eriksen apparently vanished, and the Danes started playing football as they did in the recent past. After trashing Russia in the last game of the group stage, 4-1, they would pack four more goals in the round of 16 against Wales.
Throughout the entire 90 minutes of the match, Denmark was better. The midfield did a perfect job, neutralizing the harsh and feisty Dragons, but at the same time supplying the attack with useful passes.
By the way, this was the third straight match at EURO for the Danes with three or more goals involved and the first one with clean sheets. It used to be their trademark before the championship, but apparently, this is something new in their game.
Latest News
All the players from the Czech Republic should be ready for this match.
According to the media sources from Denmark, Yussuf Poulsen and Daniel Wass should be available for this event. Poulsen’s minor injury is gone, while Wass’s illness is slowly fading away as we speak.
Head to Head Matches
Throughout history, the Czech Republic and Denmark met on 11 occasions. The Czechs are slightly better when looking at the overall picture with three wins, while Denmark has two; six matches saw no winners.
The last time they clashed was in 2016 in a friendly international, 1-1.
Prediction
Both teams fly high on morale but are also aware that this game might be the biggest one in their career. That is why both head coaches will probably go out with a cautious tactic, decreasing efficiency. Denmark is on fire lately, but the Czechs protect their goals solidly. Our safest pick here would be a moderate efficiency, meaning 2 or 3 goals. The odds on that are +100.
