In the last match of Saturday’s English Premier League program, Manchester City posted a very important win on the road against Crystal Palace.
It was vital for Guardiola’s guys to defeat the Eagles and cut down the gap between them and Liverpool, before Reds’ game against Man United at the Old Trafford tomorrow. Also, a quick bounce back following a defeat against the Wolves was essential for the reigning champs. The pressure is now on Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp’s’ guys have to take all three points; otherwise, the momentum might shift to the Citizens’ side.
Everything was over in two minutes. It was the late part of the first half once City’s ferocious attacks exploded. At first, Bernardo Silva made a nice cross from the right side, delivering the ball directly on Gabriel Jesus’ head. It was the 39th minute of the match when the guests silenced the Selhurst Park for the first time today.

A complete shock came two minutes after that. It was Davis Silva who scored following a perfect pass from Raheem Sterling. It proved to be a knockout for the home team, who couldn’t recover from it.
The second 45 minutes saw the Citizens slowing down the tempo of play and not allowing Palace to get the swing. The best chance for the home team was through Wilfried Zaha, but the best player of this squad couldn’t hit the back of the City’s net.
On the other side, the Sky-Blues could have scored at least two more goals. Still, Jesus, De Brune, and the rest of the guys either missed solid opportunities, or Palace’s goalkeeper Hennessey denied the shots.
“We have to try to win every game, and I think this season is going to be the same as last year with a relentless title race,” said Gabriel Jesus after the game.
Meanwhile, in other games today, Tottenham once again delivered frustration to its fans. It was Watford this time who managed to go from London undefeated, 1-1. The Hornets took the lead early on, when Abdoulaye Doucoure scored after just 6 minutes. Some 80 minutes later, Dele Alli leveled the result after a VAR check, bringing one point for the shaken Spurs.
Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t very happy with the final outcome, but he did admit that a point from today’s situation is a success.
“I think it was so important in the way we achieved the point,” he said. “The team was fighting; we had the character we needed to show. After a disaster, you need to fight, and you need to be strong in your mind. It was the first step to build our confidence again.”
Tottenham has a very important match with Red Star Belgrade coming up this mid-week, and they have to pull themselves together in order to beat the Serbs.
Wolverhampton and Southampton played 1-1. Danny Ings scored for the guests and Raul Jimenez for the Wolves.
Chelsea defeated Newcastle with a minimal result, 1-0. The home team had 72% of the ball in its possession and yet managed to score the only goal only 18 minutes before the end. It was Marcos Alonso who deserves credit for these three points for the Blues.
Bournemouth and Norwich City players a boring and dull match at the Dean Court. The result was 0-0. Yesterday Aston Vila beat Brighton with 2-1, while tomorrow we have a great derby, Liverpool vs. Manchester United.
