Four English Premier League games took place this Wednesday, with two of them involving Manchester City and Liverpool.
City’s Five at Etihad
Newcastle felt what is like to play against the inspired Citizens. The hosts defeated the rival from the north with 5-0, bouncing back following a defeat in Southampton. It was a rhapsody to watch Guardiola’s boys who easily found a way to Newcastle’s net.
“Painful, I’m afraid,” he tells BT Sport. “Especially after where we’ve been. They were just too good for us. Defensively, we’ve gifted them. We’ve given the ball away far too easily in dangerous areas,” stated Newcastle’s manager Steve Bruce.
The first goal was delivered by Gabriel Jesus after 10 minutes. Kevin de Bruyne assisted to Riyad Mahrez in the 21st minute, and that was the 21st assist of the Belgian international. Two minutes before the hour mark City raised to 3-0, with Fernandes putting the ball into his own net.
David Silva’s free-kick made it 4-0, and Raheem Sterling put an end to this contest in the stoppage time.
City is with 69 points, 20 behind Liverpool, while Newcastle sits 13th with 43 points.
Liverpool’s Routine Win in Brighton
The Reds didn’t have any competitive motive in this match. Yet, Klopp’s boys showed professionalism, and they rolled over Brighton easily. We saw Mohamed Salah netting twice, being the most deserved player for Liverpool’s 30th win of the year.
The new EPL champions scored twice in the opening eight minutes, with Salah being the first one, and Jordan Henderson the second scorer, Trossard would cut down the deficit in the 45th minute, and the final result was set again by the Egyptian winger, fourteen minutes before the end.
“We did pretty well in most situations, but when you lose the ball at the wrong moment, that’s when they have the chances. They deserved their goal, but we could have scored again, and it’s all good. Neco Williams had a yellow card, and we didn’t protect him well enough,” said Jurgen Klopp.
L’pool has 92 points, and is pretty close to reaching their goal, which is to break the 100-point limit. With four more rounds to go, something like this is pretty realistic. The Seagulls meanwhile are 15 with 36 points, nine more than the tams below the relegation zone.
Sheffield and Barley Post Minimal Wins
The Blades defeated Wolves 1-0, pulling down the team from Wolverhampton, preventing them from fighting for the Champions League. The only scorer was Egan in the third minute of the stoppage time, and this goal created a chaos on the bench and among all the Blades’ fans no matter where they watched the game.
United now has 55 points, Wolves 52 and Sheffield 51, and this promises to be one interesting race until the end of the campaign.
Jay Rodriguez messed up West Ham’s plans to avoid the relegation. The Clarets defeated the Hammers at home 0-1. Even though they didn’t need points as West Ham did, Sean Dyche’s boys played this one with 100% of their power,
Burnley might reach the Europa League, but according to some sources, they aren’t keen on playing the second-tier of UEFA’s competitions. As for West Ham, they do have four points more than Villa, but with a game in hand. The Hammers won 31 points in 34 matches, and Villa 27.
