This is the match between the two most recent champions, and the teams that have been terrorizing the country over the past three years. The Citizens and the Reds are arguably the two most dominant teams in the English Premier League, no debate about it. Also, everything suggests that the situation will remain the same in the upcoming few seasons. Each side has certain troubles coming into this contest, but the fans won’t accept any excuses. We expect to see a high-efficient affair with lots of goals, and excitement throughout the entire 90 minutes. Let’s hope our intuition is right about that.
Preview
After Liverpool’s last year, many believe that Man City‘s reign came to an end. However, just a few realize that in the most recent game between these two sides, Manchester humiliated the Reds with 4-0. Yes, we get it that the championship was already decided and that Liverpool had an enormous advantage, but still…
City now has three wins in a row, six in the previous eight matches, and is looking pretty solid. They haven’t allowed a goal in those three consecutive victories, scoring seven on the other side.
What is troubling Guardiola is Aguero’s absence. Without a doubt, the Argentinian is the best striker in England since Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo, and each time he isn’t on the pitch, the Citizens are not looking convincing as they usually do. Fernandinho and Mendy are not eligible as well, but that isn’t anything alarming.
Liverpool is ahead of a rough test. They are heading to face the biggest rivals and their (only) contestant for the title.
After having a slowdown and three games without a win, (including a 7-2 bashing against Villa), Liverpool responded with five wins in a row, with the one from this midweek being the most impressive. The Reds visited Atalanta, one of Europe’s most efficient teams, and many had doubts about their shorthanded defensive line.
In the end, we saw a colossal 0-5 victory of Klopp’s guy, and Diogo Jota’s hat-trick, with the note that L’Pool’s defenders did their job almost impeccably. Klopp will be short of Fabinho and Van Dijk, and probably Thiago Alcantara.
Head to Head
Overall, Liverpool has an advantage throughout history. In 215 matches, the team from Anfield posted 105 wins, and Man City 57; 53 saw a draw.
City has more success in the last five games, winning three times (With Community Shield following extra times), while Liverpool has one victory, and one match ended with a draw. The Reds haven’t won a Premiership clash at Etihad since 2015.
Prediction
Over 2.5 goals is the safest bet here. We are aware that the profits are not high, as odds stand at -205, but still, it is a safe bet.
If you want to accept some risk onto you, try with over 1.5 goals in the first halftime, because the odds there would double your profits, +110. Overall, try experimenting with a high number of scores because we really doubt that one side might play defensive in Sunday’s matchup.
