The previous night was all about a guy who made Miami Heat what are they now. One of the most known franchises around the world. With all due respect toward all other players in their history, including Shaq, LeBron, Chris Bosh, Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Morning, etc., Dwayne Wade established Heat as one of the powerhouses in the NBA.
It was appropriate for him to have a big farewell. And he did.
His Heat smashed Philadelphia 76ers 122-99, and D-Wade showed that he still has a few tricks who can fire up the crowd.
One of them was when he fell down trying to do his trademark jumping on the scorer’s table.
“That was tragic, let’s try it again,” Wade said and climbed on top of it helping itself with hands this time.
The retirement showed up a bit earlier to take Wade last night.
But the way he played, we could tell that he has at least another year. That is at least. Maybe because of the whole atmosphere or the fact that it was his last game, Wade flew around the court, and dropped 30 points in 35 minutes.
It was his last dance at home, and he wanted to thank all for allowing him to spend it here, at the place which he loves the most.
“I thank you guys for dancing with me this year,” Wade said. “I thank you guys for your patience this year. I thank you for all your love and for you having my back this year.”
After leaving Miami and heading for Chicago and then Cleveland, Wade got back in Florida for one last season, which could have been crowned with a playoff, but the Heat missed the chance in the last few games to seal the offseason.
But it will no doubt be special. He had a nice farewell tour through the league, swapping jerseys with his big rivals, and receiving love everywhere he went. That is Flash; everybody loves him.
Wade finished the last night’s game checking out with Udonis Haslem, the one remaining Heat who was in the team when he arrived. This duo came to Miami in 2003, and participated in the creation of the organization as we know it today.
“At that moment, I just wanted to enjoy it a little bit more, just a little bit longer,” Wade said. “It was great to end that last one with my brother.”
It was all perfect for D-Wade and the city of Miami last night. It seemed like someone rewind the time ten years back, and we saw Flash rocking the floor at his prime. It sure recalled a lot of memories for the fans, but it did for the player himself too.
Wade spoke about the fact that he had a couple of those while watching the tribute video before the game began, saying that he achieved something he can be proud of.
“You have the flashbacks in your mind. You have video to look at. [But] those moments, to be able to have these moments throughout your career, that’s what you want when you’re older.”

Looking back on his whole career, Wade feels thankful, for many reasons. He has enough memories, enough successes, and things to speak about, and he hopes that he made enough for the fans and the city of Miami too.
“I’ve got stories to tell. I’ve got moments that I’ll remember. Hopefully, I’ve created enough too, for this city and for these fans.”
Dwyane Wade will retire with three NBA championships, one NBA Finals MVP award, and numerous other achievements and landmarks.
But what is his greatest accomplishment is the fact that he will always be the symbol of the Miami Heat.
The last official game of D-Wade’s career will be tonight in Brooklyn against the Nets.
