One of the key pieces of the Golden State Warriors dynasty Draymond Green will reportedly stay in San Francisco for the additional four years. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski revealed today the big news, which was in some way expected to happen.
Woj stated that he received the news from Green’s agent Rich Paul who represents Klutch Sports agency.
“With free agency looming next summer, three-time All-Star Draymond Green has agreed to a four-year, $100M maximum contract extension with Golden State, agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports tells ESPN,” the most famous NBA insider wrote on his Twitter account earlier today.
Draymond Green already had a valid contract with the Warriors, and this deal is an extension which will keep him until the season 2023/2024. The player was about the start the last year of the remaining contract, and earn $18.5 million, but it appears that both sides wanted to clinch a new deal as soon as possible.

This now practically means that Green is about to earn $118 in the next five years, with his highest salary coming in the last season of the new extension, $27.6 million.
With this move, the Golden State Warriors did a massive job and kept their core of the team which established them as one of the most powerful crews in the history of the league. Steph Curry has a deal until 2022, while Green and Klay Thompson until 2024. They refreshed the squad with D’Angelo Russell who recently signed a four-year contract. So all in all, Steve Kerr now has four All-Stars in his team, and they will be here for a long time.
It is needless to speak about Green’s influence on this franchise. He is one of the best defenders in the league and for sure the guy who knows how to take care of the dirty work on the court. In all of the GSW’s conquests, Green was the one who had the toughest job. His battles with LeBron James already became legendary, and defense on the King was one of the main reasons why this franchise won three titles in the past five years.
Also, Draymond is the spiritual leader of the team, and that is something everybody among the Warriors acknowledges. His energy and motivation often guided the unit through various adversities. Some say that he is in charge of keeping the hierarchy in the locker room and that his word has the biggest impact after Kerr’s.
Green’s extension pays him $22.2M, $24M, $25.8M and $27.6M over the course of the deal. The Warriors will have $129M and $138M committed to their four max players — Curry, Thompson, Green and Russell — in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, respectively.

The 29-year old was drafted as the 35th pick overall, in the 2012 draft. He came from Michigan State where he reached two Final Four tournaments. In the meantime, besides three championship rings, he earned 3 invitations to the NBA All-Stars and was twice All-NBA. Back in 2017, he was the NBA defensive player of the year and led the league with steals. Green is a 5-time NBA All-Defensive.
After losing DeMarcus Cousins and Kevin Durant during this free agency, Bob Myers and the rest of the executives did one hell of a job of keeping the team together. They also added several youngsters, which could be very good in the future.
For sure, their development alongside Green will be much faster.
