Buffalo Bills’ Monday Night Football performance in Foxborough was superb, as Sean McDermott’s boys annihilated the New England Patriots, 38-9.
For the first time since 1999, the Bills managed to beat the Pats twice during one year, and something the fans from Buffalo waited for too long to see.
“I was telling some of the guys on the sideline, I haven’t had this feeling in Foxborough ever. I think we beat them one year when we were 9-7, but they sat out a lot of their starters to get ready for the playoffs,” defensive end Jerry Huges told the reporters following the match.
However, what is more, important here is that the Bills stayed in contention for second place in the AFC conference, which is something very important for their playoff ambitions. A home-court advantage in the first two rounds would be extremely valuable, as Buffalo’s harsh weather conditions are usually creating big troubles for all the rivals.
When talking about trouble, Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs made some for the Patriots’ defense, with the two being in the middle of attention last night. Allen threw 320 passing yards and four touchdowns, one to Lee Smith and three to his favorite target, and the No.1 wide receiver in the league, Stefon Diggs.
Diggs closed the night with 145 receiving yards and nine catches, improving his fantastic stats. The Bills’ move during the offseason once they landed Diggs from the Vikings could prove to be one of the best in the last decade.
“I’m new to this team, so I’m basking in (the) ambience of everybody,” he said after the game. “I’ve got a young quarterback who’s balling.”
The Bills also added one rushing touchdown, from Zack Moss, who had 57 yards on 12 carries.
Cam Newton would add one rushing TD to his tally as well, the 12th of the year, which is the Patriots’ new franchise record. But Newton didn’t have too many reasons to celebrate it, as Bill Belichick decided to bench him during the third period. The former MVP had just 34 passing yards, another franchise record, only a negative one.
“It’s extremely frustrating, knowing what you’re capable of, having belief in yourself. It’s just not showing when it counts the most,” he told the reporters after the game.

Super Cam’s future in Foxborough is unclear, and we might see the team with the new starting QB next season. Many suggest that Belichick could try to land Carson Wentz, who is not happy with his role in Philadelphia, while others believe that Alabama’s Mac Jones might become New England’s foundation for the future.
This is a hard year for Newton and the Pats as well, who have the worst record since 2000.
Newton’s replacement Jarrett Stidham didn’t do much better, throwing for 44 yards also without a TD. Sony Michel ran 69 yards on 10 carries, while Jakobi Meyers had 45 receiving yards on 4 receptions.
The Patriots will play their last game of the season at home next week, against the New York Jets, who posted their second win of the year this Sunday vs. Cleveland Browns.
Meanwhile, the Bills are chasing that second spot, and to reach it, they would have to overcome the Miami Dolphins in the final contest of the regular part of the season. Brian Flores’ team is in a must-win situation as well, as Fins find themselves in a fierce AFC playoff battle.
