The Miami Heat is on the ropes following last night’s loss in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets, 95-108. The Nuggets came in hard into this event, beating the rivals physically and establishing their rhythm in the second period.
There was one period in which it looked as if the guests from Colorado might have certain problems when Jokic had to sit out due to his five fouls. Head coach Mike Malone described that as the scariest moment of the entire season, but he didn’t have anything to regret because Jamal Murray stepped in to cover up Jokic’s absence on the floor.
“You know, all season long, it was like, oh, the non-Nikola minutes, kind of a crapshoot,” Malone added.
Murray scored only 15 points, hitting five of 17 shoots, but he had 12 assists and was always picking the best solutions with Jokic on the bench. Murray didn’t have a single turnover in this event. Meanwhile, Jokic had 23 points and 12 boards, with three steals and blocks.
Aaron Gordon had his night, being the top scorer of the game with 27 points and adding seven boards and six assists, with 11-for-15 from the field. He was by far the most valuable player for the Nuggets, contributing not only in offense but defense as well.
Bruce Brown was also fantastic, with 21 points off the bench and four boards in 30 minutes. These two guys were giving energy to the Nuggets’ defense, but on the other side, used Murray’s and Jokic’s playmaking skills to hurt the rivals.
As usual, the two best players in Miami were Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Jimmy B had 25 points with seven boards and assists, while Adebayo posted another double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Four more players had a double-digit scoring output, Kyle Lowry with 13, Duncan Robinson and Kevin Love had 12, while Caleb Martin scored 11 points.
“We’re going to continually fight starting [Saturday] to get better, and then we’re going to go on to Monday and do what we said we were going to do this entire time and win. We have to. We have no other choice,” Jimmy Butler stated.
The big problem for Miami’s head coach, Erik Spoelstra, was the fact that his starting guards, Vincent and Strus scored two points combined. In the only game, Miami won in this series, we’ve seen them being at a much higher level. That’s why the Heat made only eight threes in 25 attempts. On the other side, the Nuggets had 14 in 28 shots, which was a very good percentage.
Miami had a push in the final period once they came down to six points, but apart from that, they couldn’t do anything, and the Nuggets quickly pulled away before confidently closing the game.
There is no backing down for both teams now. The Heat is heading to Colorado wishing to spice up this series and win, thus come back home afterward and forcing Game 7. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are so close to history and have a chance to win the title in front of their own fans. They all know that this might be one unique chance in their life to reach glory.
Game 5 of the NBA Finals is set for Monday night at the Ball Arena in Colorado, with the tip-off at 8:30 pm ET.
