The Golden State Warriors will have a lot of business to take care during this free agency. Kevin Durant has several offers, among them the ones from the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets very tempting. Klay Thompson recently emerged as one of the potential targets for the LA Clippers, meaning that Bob Myers will have his hands full this summer.
But it seems that the majority of media forgot about DeMarcus Cousins who is also a free agent.
Boogie came from the Pelicans during the previous free agency, signing a one-year deal for just $5.3 million. At the time he was still recovering from a ruptured Achilles and hadn’t received some super-offer from any of the franchises around the league.
It is why he wanted to at least secure himself a legit shot at the ring if not being in the position to take the money. Right now, his situation is much more complicated than back then, despite what most people think.

Cousins, a four-time All-star is not in the focus of attention, and it appears that he has lost some of his previous value.
“We will see where the wind blows,” Cousins said after being asked about his plans.
When he was specifically asked would he come back to Golden State, Boogie was mysterious too.
“I don’t know. I’m open-minded. We will see what happens.”
Cousins is not in a position to be the one who can dictate the negotiations anywhere or be the guy who is the first choice for strengthening the squad. He is now more of a “leftover.” At least that is his position in the Warriors.
Myres and the crew will first look to keep KD and Klay, and then talk to Cousins if there is a need at all. The same goes for other teams — first to negotiate with Kawhi, Butler, Harris, then Boogie.
Steve Kerr described that the best, saying that he is important to the franchise, but after taking care of the two above mentioned guys,
“This summer’s going to be a wild free-agent market, and we have to figure out our own situation, particularly with Klay and Kevin and how all that shakes out.”
In 30 games he played this season, following his recovery, Cousins averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 boards, and 3.6 assists. It is far away from his previous stats, but he did have to fit in Golden State’s philosophy of play, and we might say that he did it solid. But during the playoffs, he once again suffered an injury which completely ruined his rhythm, significantly decreasing the productivity of this guy.
It seems that at least for now, Boogie is not worried about anything. The main thing on his mind is to get ready for the upcoming season in the best possible way. He will work individually, and after that, go through the training camp.
“I’m getting my game right. Getting my game back. Being myself. Getting in better shape. Getting my legs underneath me,” Cousins said, adding that he has absolute belief in the positive ending of the story for him.
“It’s going to be good offseason for me. I’m excited about that.”
We’re excited too, to see where this big star lands. Despite all the opinions and stories that he might have lost his touch for the game after the injuries, Cousins is still one of the best big players in the league. Knowing the mentality of this guy, those rumors will only make him more motivated and determined to prove himself.
And once you make Boogie mad.. well… it’s not a good thing at all.
