Snow at Lambeau usually provides a massive edge to the Green Bay Packers, which was the case against the Tennessee Titans on this Sunday Night Football. The hosts embarrassed the AFC South title candidates, beating them 40-14.
Even though most of the NFL fans expected to see a big showdown in Wisconsin, what happened there could be described as one-sided domination. The Packs were in control constantly, and apart from one brief period in the late second and early third quarter, the Titans didn’t exist on the field.
For some, it was because of the Packers’ excellent play, but for others, the cold wind, snow, and ice were the main reasons why Titans failed to show up tonight. Even Davante Adams admitted that his team had a massive edge due to the weather factors.
“People definitely don’t want to play in the cold,” Adams said. “It’s tough, man. It’s tough. It makes you a little bit less physical. It takes your speed away. If you don’t get to practice in this and get used to the temperature, the snow… it can obviously take a toll.”
For Adams (who regularly practices and lives in Green Bay), there were no such problems, as he posted three receiving touchdowns, having caught 142 yards. He was the primary target for Aaron Rodgers, who ended the night with four TD passes, one interception, and 231 yards, not completing 21 of his 25 passes. He currently sits second in the MVP title race, behind Patrick Mahomes, but has one more game to change that.
AJ Dillon was another bomb that demolished the Titans’ defense, with the rookie running back setting new heights in his short pro career. He ran 24 times for two touchdowns and 124 yards, providing a massive help to the Packs’ offensive unit. Aaron Jones followed Dillon with 94 yards on 10 carries.
On the other side, the leading rusher in the NFL, Derrick Henry, was mediocre for his standards, 98 yards on 23 snaps, without a TD. Meanwhile, Ryan Tannehill was way below his usual game, with Tennessee’s quarterback throwing just 121 passing yards, 11-of-24 passes, for one TD and two interceptions. He did run for a 45-yard score, but all that couldn’t prevent the Titans from experiencing a nasty slap in the face.
The guests’ defense was unusually bad, and they couldn’t make stops early on, which led to Packs creating a pulling away and getting a morale boost.
“I don’t think you can do that against anybody. The mistakes that we made and the start that we had, I don’t think you can beat anybody. There was just too much inconsistencies,” Titans coach Mike Vrabel stated.
Instead of securing their appearance in the playoffs and winning the AFC South, the Titans now have to win in Houston against the Texans next Sunday. Otherwise, they would depend upon other results. Right now, they have 10 wins and 5 losses, with four more other teams in the conference, Browns, Ravens, Dolphins, and Indianapolis.
The Packers have to defeat the Bears in Chicago to secure the No.1 place in the NFC. Keeping in mind that Chicago desperately needs a win in their race for the playoffs, this is going to be one hell of a match for watching. Green Bay can also stay atop the conference if the Seattle Seahawks lose against the San Francisco 49ers.
