The community of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is absolutely in love with the FACEIT Major London. The competition host some of the best teams in the world and is the biggest CS: GO tournament to date in 2018.
We have already the eight best teams in the world that will compete for the trophy and winning the prize of 500,000 dollars. However, they first have to deal with their quarter-final opponents.
It is impossible to hide the fact that the current Major is full of surprises. The tournament has already farewell some of the favorites, including North and mousesports. On the other hand, some new faces were full of surprises, such as compLexity and HellRaisers. This stage of the competition and the grand finale is all set to be played in the best of three format. The competition has come a long way. Now we will see teams fighting for the glory that comes in winning the biggest CS:GO tournament.
The reason we have picked this match is that one of the team has defied all odds while other just can’t live up to their true potential. Complexity Gaming is the lowest ranked team at this stage of the competition. They have dropped only one game in this tournament so far and have beaten far superior teams with ease. MiBR has arguably the best roster in competitive CS:GO. However, they just can’t get the chemistry right that saw them having the worst match ever in the history of the competition, losing 16-0. But the team still made it to this stage. So will they emerge victorious again or will MiBR be the next victim of Complexity gaming, let’s see.
Complexity Gaming vs MiBR (FACEIT Major London, September 20, 2018 – 10:45 PDT. Best of Three)
Complexity Gaming
CompLexity Gaming is one of the biggest and oldest North American eSports organization founded in 2003. Also known as the “col” known organization, apart from CS:GO, they have multiple teams and players in Dota 2, Call of Duty, Rocket Leader, and Hearthstone.
Although compLexity has not been in major tournaments for some time in CS: GO and is ranked 24th at the World Rankings, it has become a major competitor in the UK by winning the American Minor Qualifying Tournament.
In London, compLexity progressed from the initial stage by winning 3-1. They beat BIG, Vega Squadron and Space Soldiers while losing only to Astralis. In the Legends Stage, col was the first team to qualify for the Champions Stage after convincingly beating Fnatic (16-4), G2 (16-11) and BIG (16-8). The selection of opponents from the first looks quite troublesome. But it was no problem for the team who showed the best performance in the group and conceded only 23 rounds in three matches. So CoL is in a great form but we could see an end to their fairytale in this high stake matchup against some of the best players in the world.
Players
- Rory “dephh” Jackson, GBR
- Brad “ANDROID” Fodor, CAN
- Jacob “yay” Whiteaker, USA
- Peter “Stanislaw” Jarguz, CAN
- Shahzeeb “ShaZaM” Khan, USA
- Ronald “Rambo” Kim, USA (coach)
MiBR
The last spot for the Champions stage of the FACEIT Major London was taken by the Brazilian MiBR. A team owned by the American Immortals organization is considered to be the best CS: GO team in South America and has some of the best players in the competitive world of CS:GO. The MiBR brand was revived a few months ago by Tomi “lurppis” Kovanen. The former CS-pro acts as the general manager of the team.
MiBR’s spot in the Legends Stage for the London Major was confirmed in January after a decent performance in Boston. The former SK Gaming roster had to take a long road to the quarter-final after a 4-3 result in the Legends Stage. In London, MiBR kicked off their campaign against TyLoo losing 13-16. However, they learned from their mistakes and convincingly beat Mousesports (16-6) and G2 (16-4).
After that, the team was humiliated by Astralis in the fourth game losing (0-16). Then the team won 2-1 against NiP in the tiebreaker to secure their spot.
Maps
We know about the recent performances of both teams. Now, let’s have a look at the maps that we can expect to be picked and banned in this upcoming encounter. The map to be banned by MiBR will be Inferno since in this tournament CoL has played on it 5 times and won on 4 occasions. Even though Inferno is one of the most successful maps of MiBR, they won’t be taking any chances against CoL. The map to be picked will be Train since both teams have an over 60% win-rate on it. This map could be won by MiBR since their captain coldzera have won multiple 1v3 encounters in the past few months. Cache will also be picked since both teams have a very high win rate on it. Don’t be surprised if you see one of the oldest maps, Dust2 picked in this game since it is one of the strongest maps of MiBR while col also has around 60% win-rate on it.
Final Verdict
This match is too close to call at the moment with CoL in exceptional form and MiBR being one of the biggest names in the competitive scene. This will be a close game but should see MiBR coming out on top. The motivation of being the world champions should be enough for the team since back in their SK days, this team have bounced back on so many occasions.
MiBR 2-1 CompLexity Gaming
